MGSE3.G.1: Understand that shapes in different categories(e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.

It was a typical quiet spring morning in Kalamazoo. The sun was shining. The birds were chirping. This was usually Sammy Square's favorite time of day. He enjoyed the warm breeze blowing through the leaves of trees.

I love the spring, Sammy thought to himself. I just wish I got to experience more of it for myself. You see, Sammy Square worked every day of his life.

Sammy Square made up the largest window in the largest house in the town of Kalamazoo. He had a very important job. He let in the all the beautiful spring sunshine and gave family a gorgeous beach view.
Sammy had looked upon the beach for 5 years now, but had never had a chance to visit it for himself. "There has to be a way to get there," Sammy said one morning as he watched the sun rise over the ocean.
Sammy Square here!
Ruby Rectangle, Sammy's best friend, and was also the wall that Sammy was housed in said "Give it up Sammy! There's no way. They would notice if their largest window in the house went missing!"
Sammy thought to himself that it's not just unfair to him that he can't go to the beach, but it's unfair to all of his quadrilateral friends. It seems that all of their jobs are all so important that they are unable to take a break in order to have a little fun.

Quadrilaterals make up the walls, windows, and doors to houses. They are the most common shape for tables that people sit down and eat their meals at. They are the shape of the books that people read and the televisions that people watch. Sammy was thankful that his shape was so important, but he felt that everyone should be more appreciative of all the work that quadrilaterals do!
"I'm going on strike, Ruby!" Sammy exclaimed. He explained all his reasonings to Ruby. After Ruby thought about everything Sammy had said, she couldn't help but agree with him.
I'M GOING ON STRIKE!
"I'm with you," Ruby stated. They talked about what they were going to do and were getting really excited about it. Before long, the other quadrilaterals in the house had heard what was going on.

"I want in" said Rusty Rhombus. Rusty was a kite that had been locked away in the hall closet for years now. "They used to take me out flying every weekend. I haven't seen the light of day in forever. Let's do this!"
