"Mom! Did you forget that I have gym today for
cheerleading? It's almost time to go and you
haven't gotten dressed yet!" Aaliyah called out
to her mom.
Mrs. Thomopson was in her closet putting on her
shoes when she heard a knock on the door. Not
only was Aaliyah ready but baby DJ was also
ready to get his diapers changed.
Aaliyah began to get frustrated and went with
one of her friends instead of her mom.

After getting home from gym Aaliyah did her
homework, washed up and headed down to
dinner. Mrs. Thompson cooked broccoli and
cheese, fried chicken and red rice. Aaliyah sat at
the table, said grace, and began to eat. By the time
she was finished, Mrs. Thompson realized Aaliyah ate
all of her food except for the broccoli. She wondered
why Aaliyah wouldn't each her vegetables because
growing up she was taught to eat all her food, including
vegetables.

Later that night while she was laying down, Aaliyah felt sick
to her stomach. She called her mom into the room to check
her out.
"Mom, I don't feel too good. Can you please see whats
wrong?" Aaliyah said.
Her mom examined her but because she's not a doctor she
couldn't figure out what was really wrong. Aaliyah and Mrs.
Thompson slipped on some clothes and down to the hospital
Aaliyah went.

At the hospital, the doctor told Aaliyah that she had just a
little bit of cancerous cells in her. Not only was that bad to
Aaliyah but also to her mother. Mrs. Thompson didn't know
where she went wrong. She knew Aaliyah was very active and
always ate her food.
The doctor explained that although cancer may sound very
dangerous, to prevent Aaliyah from catching a full grown
tumor, she would have to eat broccoli.
That sounded like a bad idea to Aaliyah because she always
hated broccoli. Not only didn't she like the taste but she also
said they looked like little monster trees. But this would be
the only thing that would stop Aaliyah from getting sick.

That night when Aaliyah got home she asked God why
that had to happen to her. She was always told not to
question God but she couldn't help it.
All night long she cried and cried and cried. It really hurt
her to know that she may have become sick and wouldn't
be able to do what she loved to do the most, cheerlead.
After crying for hours, Aaliyah finally laid in her bed and
went to sleep not knowing what tomorrow would bring.
