One of the main cells in bone is called osteocyte. This cell has a nucleus, which is in the middle and contains DNA arranged in chromosomes. The nucleus acts as the brain of the cell. Other crucial parts of the cell include mitochondria which powers the cell, vacuoles which store water and nutrients, canaliculi which supplies nutrients, cytoplasm which fills space in the cell, cell membrane and wall which protects the cell, and lacunae which fills space in between cells. The cell membrane and wall are on the outside of the cell, and most other parts are on the inside. Canaliculi sticks out of the cell a little so it can preform its functions. All parts of the cell are needed so that it can function properly. For example, cells need to maintain homeostasis but they cannot do this without instructions from the nucleus, power from mitochondria, canaliculi that communicates with other cells, and all other parts. They all play important roles in the survival of the cell.
