Daisy the dog was starting school on Monday.  On Sunday night as her mother was tucking her into bed, Daisy looked up at her with worried eyes.  "Mama, what is school like?" she asked.  

Mama looked at Daisy and gave her pat on the head.  "Sweet child, you will love school.  You will make new friends and learn a lot of new things."

"But Mama? What if my new friends don't like me?" Daisy asked worriedly.  

" Your new friends are going to love you.  Now, get some rest."

On Monday morning after a hearty breakfast, Daisy and her mother walked to the bus stop. Daisy's eyes lit up as she spotted the big yellow bus.  "Oh, Mama! Look! The bus is so big!" She exclaimed with a big smile on her face as she climbed aboard the big bus.

The bus was loud and bumpy as it took off down the road.  As Daisy was looking out the window, she noticed a little penguin looking sad. 

"Hi!" Daisy said, politely.  "My name is Daisy.  What's yours?"

The penguin looked at Daisy and wiped his eyes.  "I'm Paulie the Penguin.  I am scared of going to school."

"I am a little scared, too. But let's be friends so we can be brave together." 

Paulie smiled at her.  "I would like that, Daisy." he said.  

When they arrived at school, they were greeted by Mrs. Whoo, their teacher.  She smiled at Daisy and Paulie as she showed them where to hang their backpacks. They found a spot on the carpet and sat on the shapes given.  Sitting by them were their classmates, all anxiously waiting for class to begin.   

"Good morning, friends.  Welcome to class.  Whooo is ready to learn?" All of the students said, "Me!"

"Great!  Let's get started." She introduced the classmates.  There was Em the Elephant, Layne the Lion, and Cam the Cat.  They all looked eager to learn.  Daisy was nervous.  What if she didn't know what to do? Zander Zebra looked angry.  "I am hungry.  But I forgot my lunch."

Daisy felt sad for Zander.  She hated being hungry.  She goes to him and says "Zander, I will share my lunch with you." 

Zander looked up at her and smiled.  " You will?" he asked. 

"Oh yes! I have extras.  I don't want my friends to be hungry." 

Zander looked confused.  " I am your...friend?" 

Daisy looked at him and smiled her biggest smile.  "Of course!  We can all be friends at school!' 

During recess, Daisy noticed Layne the Lion sitting by himself.  He sat watching Em Elephant, Bonnie Bunny,, and Cam the Cat play tag.  

" Hi, Layne, " Daisy said.  " Are  you having a fun day?"

" Yes," said Layne.  

" Why aren't you playing tag?" Daisy asked. 

" I'm too shy, " Layne said quietly.  "I don't want to ask."

" Come on!  Lets join them! Follow me!" And just like that, Daisy and Layne joined in the game, laughing happily as they tagged one another.
