                                    A pumpkin is a fruit! 

    Pumpkins are fruits because they contain seeds and develop          from the flowering part of a pumpkin vine.

How does a pumpkin grow?

A pumpkin begins as a seed that is planted into soil. Pumpkin seeds need water and sunlight to grow.

    Next, the seed grows roots and changes into a sprout.

Not long after, the sprout turns into a  pumpkinvine with leaves and spreads along the ground.

Then, bright yellow flowers begin to grow on the vine.

Bees help with pollination.

After a while the flowers fall off and a tiny pumpkin grows.

    Initially the tiny pumpkin is green.
