A huge thank you for my two friends' minds. I could've never published or written this book without you. ♥ ♥
And thank you, Storyjumper for crossing something off my bucket list. ♥ ♥

Kai was scared; the sky was darkening and it felt as though the rain was made out of ink. The wind seemed to be made of mystery. She was far from home, and she did not recognise the streets around her. Though, she did feel like she had heard of the house number 62 before.. the piece of paper in her hand confirmed that she was at the right place.. 62 Peach Road. Her friend Ursula seemed to have a connection to the place, though she never said what it was. Ursula had told her they kept the key in the pink orchids, so Kai grabbed the key, and stepped inside.
The instructions weren’t clear, as they said where she should go, but no reason why. The paper said to check somewhere, but the instructions didn’t make sense. ‘Fireplace, while cold, brick.' Kai couldn’t understand, but she went over to the fireplace, while it was off and saw a loose brick.
Kai prised the brick out using her fingers, it was heavy. She tried to look for more clues on the piece of paper, but it looked blank. She flipped the brick over, and found a group of letters. ‘EANIN.’ The letters were written in soot. Kai was confused, and she did not like the house one bit, but she wanted to investigate how it was connected to Ursula.
She then noticed that, when she turned the brick over, there was a tiny hole behind the brick that looked like it led somewhere. She was way too big to fit in it, so she was confused. She then remembered that her friend Lila, who created the piece of paper with the instructions on, gave her a number of bottled potions earlier and told her to use them once she got into the house. A bolt of lightning struck through the house next to her, as she then noticed that the house had no roof.
The lightning was coming in fast, and she had to find shelter before the lightning got her. She was scared, so she hid in the fireplace for shelter. She didn’t know what to do, so without any thought, she drank one of the potions Lila had given her in a large gulp. Then she felt queasy. Her vision got blurry, as it seemed as if everything around her grew. Before she knew it, she was sitting on the ground staring up at a cliff face of bricks. She looked in front of her, and the hole seemed gigantic – and so incredibly high up…
A raven then flew into the home and then stopped. It looked at Kai, and headed towards her.
It shrunk as it flew. Kai was about to scream, so her mouth was wide open. The raven was small enough to fly into Kai’s mouth. Instead of spitting it out, Kai then suddenly glowed as, when she opened her eyes, she was floating above the ground. She tried to grab her hands, but she only felt feathers. And that’s when she knew, she was a raven!
Kai then flew above her, and got into the hole. It now seemed huge, even though when she was bigger it seemed as tiny as a ladybird. She flew through the hole until she got into a bedroom. The room had a few words on the walls, the most prominent was the name ‘Annie’ written above the bed. . Kai then remembered the anagram from earlier. It spelt ‘Annie.’
It appeared it was a teenager’s bedroom, maybe Annie’s. It looked dirty and unkempt as if no one had been in it for quite some time, which was at odds to the used fireplace in the previous room. Kai flew closer to the name ‘Annie’ and stared at it, her missing sister’s name was Annie. Kai then recalled her sister’s handwriting. It looked exactly like the handwriting on the wall. Kai stared at the name on the wall more closely, and then suddenly fell on the bed, as everything seemed to shrink around her. She seemed taller, and more human. In fact, she looked down at her wings only to discover two pink arms. She WAS human again!
Apart from the bed and the writings on the walls, there was little else in the room, apart from a shabby chest of drawers.
There were three main drawers, and above them, two smaller drawers which were side by side. She began by opening the bottom drawer. It wasn’t empty, and contained a modern looking torch. It was silver and looked brand-new. Kai found the on button easily, and the room lit up with a bright white glow. Using the torch, she was then able to see that one of the top drawers’ handles wasn’t dusty, unlike the others. Kai assumed that someone had recently used it, so she pulled it open. She was then surprised to find that the drawer contained a small, white envelope, devoid of any writing whatsoever on the outside. It wasn’t hers, she knew she shouldn’t open it, but she couldn’t help herself. Within, was a folded piece of paper which she opened. There were three words. ‘Bathroom.Drain.Purple.’ Kai didn’t understand the meaning of the drain and purple, but she knew that she next needed to find a bathroom.
Kai also noticed a pill inside the envelope. Written in tiny words on the pill was ‘eat me.’ Kai always liked Alice in Wonderland and Alice’s Adventures, it was one of her favourite books. So, without thinking about the dangers, she went ahead and placed it on her tongue. She paused for a second, and then swallowed it. It was a bit dry to swallow so she grabbed another potion. She didn’t pause to read the label, she simply needed to have a liquid to help the pill go down. She took a sip, and then drank the rest. There was another bright flash of lightning, followed by thunder. It was at that moment that she felt an overwhelming tingle in her body. It ran from her fingers down to her toes, and then, suddenly, it felt like her whole body was numb. As she looked at a wall, the colours melted away slowly. It was if she could almost see through it, oh wait- she could! She looked around, and all of the walls were translucent.
Beyond one of the walls, she could see a bathroom. It looked clean and shiny, unlike the bedroom. It seemed like she could walk through the wall.. so she did.
Kai had entered the bathroom. Looking around, she noticed a bath with a curtain. The curtain felt silky when she pulled it back. Opening the curtain, Kai recoiled at the sight of the filthy bath water lying in the tub. It looked dark and muddy, not like normal water. The water looked like it hadn’t been touched for years, which didn’t make sense as the bathroom looked new. Kai then recalled the envelope from earlier. It said ‘drain.’ She must’ve needed to drain the dirty bath water. She looked for the plug chain but she couldn’t find it. Kai tried reaching in for the plug but all she could find were two thick layers of mud. When she pulled her arm out of the bath, it seemed as though she had caught a woodlouse.
