The living world on our planet is wonderful and diverse - many, many different living beings live here.

How many do you think there are?

Did anyone count them?

Where does everyone live?

How are they different?

To describe all the diverse creatures that live on our planet Earth, all the different plants, animals, fungi, microorganisms, communities and places where they live, scientists talk about biodiversity.

There are many animals  living in air. We call them birds..........

Birds are flying in air and built their nest, usually on trees. They have feathers, beak, 2 legs and walk funny

In Crete we have a bird called KOKALA because eats only bones (Kokala). It is a bird that is in danger, because shepherds and hunters kill it.

We promise to protect it

There are also flying insects 

These are the bees. They need flowers and flowers need them

These are butterflies. They need also flowers to be feed and have beautiful colors

We still know a lot of insects. We see them now in the spring. Ladybugs, ants, beetles, spiders. We learned to count their feet and that it is the birds' favorite food

Spiders have 8 legs while other insects have 6. We have seen many different spiders

Some worms live both on land and at sea. They are the best food for birds but also for fish. If they are lost they will starve all the animals

Another animal that lives both on land and in the water is the frog. Here in Crete we have the Cretan frog. It does not exist anywhere else in the world and that is why we protect it from other frogs

Many creatures live in the sea ... sea urchins, snails, shellfish. They are also animals and they are fishes food. The fishes are different because they have tails and gills to breathe in the water. The sea needs them because if they are lost, all its animals will die.

In Crete we have a sea turtle called Caretta-Caretta.It lays its eggs on our beach. We do not  throw garbage so that it does not eat it, nor to damage its nests

Many different birds live in Serbia. Unfortunately, many of them are disappearing because of the negligence of adults...

Many animal species are also endangered. Their habitats are disappearing and they no longer have a place to live
