In a little village not so far away lives a family 

just like yours.

This family has a little girl called Amelia. 

Can I tell you a story about Amelia and her best friend?

Yes? Okay! Here we go...

One day, Amelia was walking home from school when she saw her friend Faith walking home with her dad from the shop.

Did you know that Faith lives next door to Amelia? That's right! She does!  

Faith and Amelia have a lot of things in common. 

They both have the same hair colour, the same bright yellow rain jackets and, even the same pink flowery hats. 

Amelia's mom says that they're practically the same person! 

But there is one big difference between them... Faith doesn't have a mom anymore. 

She left a couple of months ago. 

Amelia tried talking to Faith about it, but Faith didn't seem to want to talk about anything anymore. 

Even when Amelia had a really funny joke to tell her, she didn't seem to want to listen. 

Amelia didn't even know why Faith's mom left. This made Amelia very  sad.

One night she decided to ask her mom about it.

 Did you know that you can always tell your mom or dad anything?  Even the tiny things. 

Amelia's mom had some very good advice. She told Amelia to be patient and wait until Faith was ready to talk about it.

 Unfortunately, Amelia isn't very good at waiting. 

So, as she drifted off to sleep that night, she came up with a plan to go and visit Faith. 

Amelia knew that Faith would be at home after lunch tomorrow because she always practiced her piano at  exactly the same time every Saturday afternoon. 

This meant that Amelia could go talk to Faith then and they could be friends again! 

The next day Amelia did exactly that.

 She went outside to play in the backyard  and when no one was looking, she climbed over the fence, landing next to Faith's back door.

But...

As she stood up to knock on the door, she saw a terrible thing through the window. 

It made her very upset.
