Hello, my name is Amelia Earhart! I was born on July 24, 1879. In good old Atchison, Kansas. I broke away from the norms of being just a girl. I enjoyed being me. I played games that were only meant for boys at the time; and began to explore auto engineering. Oh, also I went to college too!

When I was eleven years old I went to Iowa. You might be thinking why? I went because the big Iowa state fair was there. Oh, also the Wright brothers were there with their airplane. I had never seen one before. It was huge!

When I grew up. I became a volunteer nurse during the World War I. I helped heal hurt soldiers in Toronto, Canada. During my free time I saw pilots work, train, and fly their airplanes. This is when my interest for airplanes grew. 

When the war ended, I went back to the USA. The first thing I did was enrolled in Columbia University to become a medical student.

One day I met Frank Hawks. He took me on my very first airplane ride. It was the year 1920 during December. This day change my life forever. I fell in love with airplanes.

After that life-changing day. I went to follow my new dreams of becoming a pilot. So, I decided to come out of school and joined flying classes with Neta Snook. She was my pilot teacher.

I loved practicing to fly, but I realized I did not have my own airplane. So, I made a plan to get my very own airplane. I was incredibly excited! The first plane I purchased was yellow and called "The Canary". 

After getting my plane, I set many records. In the year 1922, I set my first record. I became the very first women to fly by myself up 14,000 feet in the air!

Once I set my first record, Many other women pilots applauded me on my great accomplishment. I realized there were no groups or clubs just for women pilots. So, I decided to create one called "99" because there were only 99 of us!
