There once was a little girl named 

Suzy.   Suzy loved going to school 

and would always look forward to 

science.   Science was Suzy’s 

favorite subject and it was the 

highlight of her day.

One day when Suzy went to class, she 

was so excited to find out that her 

class was doing a science experiment.  

Suzy’s teacher had been taking care of 

goldfish but her goldfish was looking 

very sad and was not swimming 

around the bowl like it used to.

Suzy’s teacher wanted the class to 

do an experiment on the best way 

to take care of goldfish.   She told 

the class that she had been feeding 

the goldfish once a week.   The 

teacher split up the students into 

groups of four.   Suzy was so 

excited because she was in a group 

with all of her friends.

The teacher gave each group of students 4 

bowls, each with one goldfish inside.   They 

were to take care of these goldfish for one 

month.  

The first goldfish was to be fed twice a day.  

The second goldfish was to be fed once a 

day.   The third goldfish was to be fed 2 

times a week.   And the fourth goldfish was 

to be fed once a week.

All of the students were very excited to have their 

own goldfish to take care of.   Suzy and her group 

took care of the goldfish for one month.   During 

this month, they fed all of their fish differently 

and observed how each fish was acting.  

After a week, Suzy and her group could see that 

the fish that were getting fed once and twice a 

week were looking much slower than the fish that 

were getting fed once and twice a day.

After a month, Suzy and her group were 

sad to see that the fourth fish that only got 

fed once a week had died.   The third fish 

that was fed twice a week was very slow 

and looked very sad.   The second fish that 

was fed once a day was swimming around 

the bowl.   The first fish that was fed twice 

a day was the liveliest of them all.
