Snow leopards are rare creatures, Because of that, we don't know to much of that creature. Snow leopards are beautiful and dangerous, its best to stay away from them. But because of their behavior they don't go near humans.

Habitat

Snow leopards are found in mountainous regions of central and southern Asia. They are found in : Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Nickname

Snow leopards have a nickname of "Ghost of the Mountains". Because of their behavior, they are very shy and don't go near humans. Its very hard for people to see the snow leopards and study them. But scientist are finding ways to get closer looks at them by camera. plus their coat patterns blend in the rocks and snow very well.

Physical Characteristics

 Snow Leopards are beautiful, they are gray with a white under and black rosettes ( the spots on a leopard are called rosettes because they look like roses ), and blue eyes. Their blue eyes help them blend in even more. Blending in helps them hunt. And their big eye help them see so well in the dark, allowing them to see in total darkness. 

Relatives

The snow leopards name makes you think that the snow leopard is the closest to leopards, but actually they are most genetically closest to tigers. For many years the snow leopard had a scientific name uncia uncia. But in 2010 when they found out snow leopards are closer to tigers ( Panthera tigris), they had a new name of panthera uncia.

Types

There are many types of leopards, there are : the Anatolian Leopard, the Barbary Leopard, the Sinai Leopard, the South Arabian Leopard , the Zanzibar , the African leopard, And the Amur leopard.  And there are many more! The Snow leopard is the only leopard that lives in the mountains, while others mostly live in warm tropic places.

Food

They eat : blue sheep, Argali wild sheep, ibex, marmots, pikas, deer and other small mammals.
