This book is dedicated to all the kids who have to work hard and overcome adversity to achieve their dreams.

Billy was a 9-year-old boy from the big state of Texas. He had a dream, to become a star football player! Billy was small for his age but he was tough and wanted to play quarterback, he wanted to be the leader of the football team. He wanted to be the leader of the Rockport Little Lions, the name of the youth football team in the town of Rockport.
Billy's family was uniquely close. He had a great relationship with his older sister Jenny, they loved each other and she knew Billy better than anybody. If something was going on and Billy wasn't acting right Jenny knew. This relationship with his family is what always pushed Billy to be his best because he wanted to impress his family and make them proud. This applied especially to his relationship with his Dad but even when Billy didn't know it sometimes his Dad was more proud than anything else in the world of Billy and he loved to teach and encourage him.
Billy came to his first day of practice and told the coach he wanted to play quarterback. The Coach laughed and said "Billy you're too small! Tommy will be our quarterback because he is big and tall and a year older than you" Billy's eyes filled with tears as he was called over to the group of running backs. When Billy's Dad picked him up in the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck he asked Billy what was wrong.
I can do this...
"Billy what's wrong?" said Dad "I'm too small to be quarterback I can't be the leader they picked Tommy!" said Billy as tears poured down his face. Billy's Dad then said something Billy would never forget "Just because you are not the quarterback doesn't mean you can't lead Billy, you first lead by example and good leaders want what's best for the team...BUT if you believe in your heart you can be the best quarterback then don't give up! Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't achieve something, not even me."

Billy suddenly knew what he had to do. He decided that he was going to train and practice until he was the best, and he practiced every day. One day while Billy was in his yard practicing throwing Tommy rode by with a few of his friends on their bikes and he began to make fun of Billy. They said, "none of that's going to matter you are still too small and not strong enough". Billy was so angry with them and the boys began to fight, Billy wanted to show him how strong he was... Billy shocked Tommy with his strength and quickness but the boys realized it was not worth it.
The wrestling between the boys ended quickly and Billy went to practice later that night. He told the Coach that he wanted to play quarterback and the coach asked him to throw some passes. Billy's hard work had paid off as he was throwing farther than anyone else on the team! Including Tommy, Tommy complained saying that he was the quarterback to which the Coach replied "Last week you were the best quarterback but this week it has been Billy, you boys must always compete and push each other in a friendly and supportive way and bring out the best in each other."
