This book is dedicated to all of the young girls who are on their journey to find their own voice.

Once upon a time, there were three best friends. The girl's names were Phoebe, Claire, and Ivy. All the girls go to school together at Newfane Elementary, and they are in 3rd grade.

The girls loved school so much, it was their favorite place to be. They loved to draw together. There were many other kids in their class but they seemed to always stick together. Their bond was too strong to break.

One day at school while the class was working, their teacher, Mrs. Danley, screamed in fear and exclaimed, "Ahhh... there's a huge spider in the sink!" The children all thought of what the solution could be to get rid of it. Then, the teacher asked, "Are there any strong boys that could get rid of the spider for me?" Every boy in the class stepped forward to be chosen. It was at this moment that the girls began to wonder.

"We can help you Mrs. Danley!", said the boys.

Hmmmm...
The girls wondered why Mrs. Danley had only asked the boys of the class to do the "strong" and "brave" task. They felt discouraged and confused as to why it was a "boy's job", instead of a job that could be done by anyone. But they didn't bother to question Mrs. Danley.

"Maybe Mrs. Danley was just taking turns, and I bet next time she'll ask anyone to do it.", said Phoebe.
Later that week, the girls were going to their phys ed class. In their class they were learning how to perform basic exercises. Their teacher, Mr. Grant, taught the class how to do a pushup. While the class was practicing their pushups, Mr. Grant said to Phoebe, Claire, and Ivy, "If the normal pushups are too difficult for you all, it is completely fine to practice doing 'girl pushups' instead".

The girls were very confused by what Mr. Grant had said to them. They didn't understand why they were called "girl pushups". They also didn't understand why Mr. Grant had only said it to them, instead of the entire class. But they didn't bother to question Mr. Grant.

"Maybe Mr. Grant just forgot to tell the rest of the class", said Claire.
