I decide that something needs to change. I go to my mom with a list of reasons as to why she should let me stay home alone. I take a deep breath and begin my speech, “First, Im 10 years old and quite mature for my age. Second, Im responsible, I occasionally keep my room clean and have all A’s and B’s. Third, Im the only kid on the block that still has a babysitter. Don't you want me to fit in with the others?”

I give my best smile when I finish and Mom barely looks up, “No. You’re too young right now so maybe in a couple of years.” My shoulders droop and I leave the room with a frown. But I’m not giving up yet. I prepare and prepare until I have a speech ready for my dad. I find him in the living room and take a deep breath before starting,

 “I’ve come up with some reasons why I don't need a babysitter anymore. First, I'm very mature for my age. Second, Im responsible, I’ll always keep my room clean and I'll get all A’s. Third, You shouldn’t want me to be left out. I'm the only kid that still has a babysitter.” Dad looks around me at the tv, “Sorry but you’re just too young. Maybe when you’re in middle school.”

Defeated, I go to my room and stare at the ceiling for what feels like forever. When mom and dad call me down for dinner I'm still sulking. I eat my food quickly and I'm almost done when mom talks again, “Well, your father and I have been doing some talking. We decided that instead of your sister babysitting you, you can go over to Ben’s house with his mom and we’ll pick you up when we’re done with work.”

I stand up quickly to hug and thank both of my parents. I eat even faster and rush to shower and go to bed. Tomorrow can't come soon enough. The next day after school, I walk home with Ben and we go to his house. This is much better than when my sister babysits me.
