-Eloy: name meaning warrior chief
-Rabbit and its connection to the moon goddess
-Listing of important Mayan animals (monkey, jaguar, etc.)
When night comes, the world is plunged into blinding darkness followed by deafening silence(1). This opportunity is abused by beasts such as the jaguars, the great hunters. Greatest of all of them was Eloy. He could track his prey even in the darkest nights of all.

One day the goddess Ixchel sent her messenger, a simple gray rabbit with a white puff of fur on his chest named Moon, to warn Eloy that he was harming the balance of the jungle.
"Eloy," said the rabbit, "the goddess Ixchel has an important message for you."
However Eloy, in all of his foolish arrogance, did not believe in the gods the way others did. He scoffed and waved Moon away "Return to your den for it is the day time and I need my sleep for the midnight hunt."

Eloy had no intention of letting the rabbit return. He concluded with his foolish intelligence that he would eat the rabbit that night when it arrived.
"The fool," thought Eloy. "He thinks he can disturb my sleep with these innuendos of gods' messages."
With that last thought, the jaguar returned to his slumber.
The night arrived as the final round edge of the sun was swallowed by the horizon leaving only the reds and purples in the sky before the land itself was swallowed by darkness.
The rabbit returned again to Eloy. "Eloy, the goddess Ixchel has requested that you not hunt so many animals at night. All of the birds. All of the snakes. All of the monkeys. Every animal(2) is needed to maintain balance in the world. All of the good, all of the bad, including you, have a purpose(3)."

Eloy simply scoffed. "You dare come to me with lies of a so called goddess," he roared.
"Tell me, where is your goddess now? She isn't here to stop me."
"Stop you from what?" inquired the rabbit.
With the swipe of a claw as cleanly as the swords of man would be, Eloy put three giant claw marks into Moon's side and prepared to devour the poor messenger

However, before he could do that, the enraged Ixchel came down to Earth with the mighty rage of her love for the rabbit. There was a light as bright as the sun so blinding that Eloy had to look away to avoid losing his vision. Even so, his eyes had to readjust when the light faded.
"You had been warned, Eloy! I have tolerated your campaign as the leading force of nature, but you and your bold stupidity leave me no choice."
