There Once was a man who lived a modest life. He had a nice house, nice furniture, and a very nice car. He did not have anything too fancy, but everything he had was nice and simple, and got the job done. His name was Jett. 

Jett was always trying to buy better things even though he had nice things, to begin with. It started small, some days he would buy a fancy shirt, and other days he would buy fancy spoons.

One day, Jett was walking down the street and he noticed a man wearing a fancy, very expensive Gucci jacket, and he got jealous. He went home and looked at his normal, modest blue jacket and said, "This piece of junk just isn't good enough. I need something better." He was set on buying a brand new expensive jacket, no matter the cost, he wanted more things.

So the next day he went to the Gucci store and bought the most expensive jacket he could find. 

now that's a cool jacket!!!

When he got home he looked at his jacket in the mirror and he thought, "Wow! this is a really nice jacket, but I feel like something is missing...". He shrugged the feeling off and continued on with his day. However, he still had a sad feeling like it wasn't enough. 

He went to sleep that night with the same feeling as before, but he still dozed off and got up for work the next day. 

hmmm... it's not as great as I thought

When he got to work the next day the receptionist at the office said, "wow! that's a really nice jacket, but I liked the one you had before too, it really suited you, blue looks very good on you." The receptionist was an old woman who had been working at the same office as Jett for a while, her name was Reyna. She was very nice and very wise. Jett responded with,"Thank you... But that other blue jacket was too cheap. It wasn't enough for me, I needed something better."

It isn't good enough.

 Reyna looked at him in confusion. She replied, "I didn't think anything was wrong with that old jacket, some people wish they had a nice blue jacket like that". Jett smiled kindly at her and came up with a second, "Thank you", but he really didn't pay much attention to what she said and he didn't really take it to heart. 

After work, Jett went home and looked at his bank account on his phone, and after the purchase of the jacket it was a lot lower than before, but he ignored it and went on with his day.

it's not that bad...

The next day while he was walking his dog he noticed the guy who had the expensive Gucci jacket on again. He noticed that this time he had on an expensive pair of shoes. Jett was envious and thought to himself, "I ought to get myself an expensive pair of shoes, maybe that's what I'm missing!"

Later that day he went to the shoe store and found the most expensive pair of Dior sneakers there and bought them. When he got home he looked at himself in the mirror and he wasnt as happy about his brand new shoes as he thought he would be, but he shrugged the feeling off and went to bed for work the next morning. 

now those are shoes that will make me happy!

The next day at work as Jett walked past Reyna's desk she looked at him in disappointment and said, "Your old dress shoes were nice, what happened to them?" Jett responded with, "I didn't like them anymore so I bought better shoes to make myself happy". And he kept walking past her desk and ignored her concern. 

As he drove home that day he received a call from the bank telling him he maxed out his credit card, and he was late on his credit card payment. His need for expensive things was driving him into debt, and if he kept going in this direction he was doomed.
