Ellen Craft
In 1826, Ellen craft was born in Clinton Georgia by an enslaved woman called Maria.
Although She was born to an enslaved woman, people didn’t think she was black at the time, because she had a type of high yellow skin tone.
William Craft
While Ellen Craft was born in Clinton Georgia, A boy named William Craft was born in Macon.
Before being sold, at the age of 14 William Craft witnessed his family getting sold by rich people.
In the future
Eventually, after a few years Ellen married William Craft, while also having five kids.
Only three of the kids will come with Ellen Craft and William Craft back to the United States of America.
The Escape
When being enslaved, Ellen Craft took advantage of her appearance, so she dressed up as a man in disguise.
At first her plan was working and she took William, but then an officer detained them only temporarily. The officer wanted proof that William was indeed Ellen’s property.
They were released and led on the train, after the passengers insisted that the cop let them on the train.
More Trouble
After two years of their escape, a guy named Collins sent two bounty hunters to find Ellen and William.
Although the bounty hunters tried to find Ellen and William, Supporters protected Ellen and William until they could leave the country.
The Travel
The Crafts leave for England where Ellen pays for her mother's visit to England, so that they could reunite.
After England the Crafts traveled to different countries to run away from their bounty hunters.
