"The wind is blowing!" exclaimed little Charlie Anne. She stretched out her arms, and prepared for the breeze to carry her off the ground.

But Charlie Anne stayed on the ground.

Charlie Anne was determined.
"If I jump at the right time, the wind will have to let me fly!" she said.

She climbed on to a small bucket and stretched out her arms again, preparing herself for flight.

But Charlie Anne stayed on the ground.

She looked around and saw a beautiful Robin flying in the trees.

"Hey, robin! How can you fly?" she asked him.
"Me?" asked the robin, "why, it's just something I've always been able to do."

Charlie Anne looked up at him with wide, excited eyes. "Can you teach me?"
"Of course I can teach you! Just spread your wings, and flap!"

Charlie Anne put out her arms and moved them up and down, but still...

Charlie Anne stayed on the ground.

"I'm sorry I couldn't help you," said the robin. "Hey, maybe ask the duckling! He can fly too."

"Okay, thank you, robin!" exclaimed Charlie Anne, and she set off for the park.

Charlie Anne skipped all the way down to the middle of the park.

When she arrived, she met a duckling.
"Hello there!" cheered the duckling. "What brings you here?"

"Can you teach me how to fly?" she asked.
"Why, sure," said the duckling. "Just simply tilt your head, and spread your winds, and flap!"

Charlie Anne did as the duckling had told her but still...

Charlie Anne stayed on the ground.
"I suppose maybe I am unable to teach you." He looked down, sadly. "How about you ask the butterfly?

So Charlie Anne set off for the garden.

Charlie Anne walked into the garden. All around her were pretty flowers. There were red ones, pink ones, yellow, purple, and white ones. On top of a tulip, she met a butterfly.

"Hey there butterfly! You're very graceful. Can you teach me how to fly?" Charrlie Anne asked.

The butterfly nodded. "It's easy," she said, "Just pull back your tummy, tilt your head, spread your wings, and flap!"

She prepared herself for flight but still... Charlie Anne stayed on the ground.

The butterfly saw a sad look on little Charlie Anne's face. "Don't give up. I know one last animal that can help you. He's an owl, a very wise owl indeed. Go on and ask him!"

"Okay," whispered Charlie Anne, and she set off for the forest.
