Meet Jenny.

Jenny was born in Virginia and has lived there her whole entire life (all seven years!), just her, her dad, and their dog, Odie. Jenny loves living in Virginia, and she thinks it's the best place in the whole world! 

She loves her bedroom, her house, her school, and her church.  She loves having all of her cousins down the street to play with and she knows ALL of the neighborhood kids.  She loves her gymnastics coach, her teacher, and even the old dog on the corner who barks for hours and hours at a time. 

Yes, Jenny's life was quite perfect.

Then one day, everything changed

Jenny's dad came home from work one day and told her he had great news - he got a new job and they were going to be moving!  

"WHAT?!  How is that good news?" thought Jenny.  She didn't want to leave her room and her school and her church and gymnastics and all of her friends and cousins.  Jenny was upset.  

"I know it may not seem like it now Jenny, but just give it a chance, please.  California is full of sunshine and beaches, and so many fun things for us to do.  And we can always come back to Virginia to visit" her dad promised.

The whole last week in Virginia, all Jenny ever seemed to do was cry.  Every box they packed, every goodbye she said; it was all just too much. Jenny didn't want to leave Virginia and she certainly didn't want to move to California!  

The whole entire plane ride, she stared out the window, as she watched Virginia disappear and new states emerge.

They made it to their new house, and, okay - Jenny would admit that her new bedroom in California was a lot nicer than her old one back in Virginia.  And there was a beach just down the street from her house, which was becoming one of Jenny and Odie's new favorite places to be.   And her dad already found her a new gymnastics coach, which she would be starting up again soon.

All in all, California did have some perks to it. But one thing was for certain - Jenny was NOT prepared for the first day of her new school.
