About the Author/Dedication Page 

My name is Lauren Hattery.  I'm going to college for Early Childhood Education.  One of my best friends cousins has type 1 diabetes and lives his life just like we do.  He's just another person who's living life, going to school, has a job, and plays sports.  This book is dedicated to him because he inspires me everyday to live life to the fullest.

Hello!  My name is Reed.

I am in fourth grade, I am ten years old and I have type 1 diabetes.

I like playing outside, throwing the baseball, playing basketball, and riding my bike.

I am just the same as everyone else but I have to be careful and constantly watch my blood sugar levels.  If I don’t do this, the results could be very bad for me and my family.

When my blood sugar levels are not where they are supposed to be I get really shaky, I feel sick, I get headaches, and sometimes I can't move. 

This really worries my parents because they are always worried about me.  They are constantly checking on me and making sure that everything’s fine, and that I’m okay.

I wear a pump to keep my levels in check and keep a steady dose of insulin throughout the day, but I still have to check my glucose every hour.

To help reduce some of the stress and constant babysitting, my parents have been looking into getting me a diabetic alert service dog!

After months of my parents doing research, they are finally going to try it out!  We get to go pick him up next week!  I’m so excited to be getting a dog!
