Mom ... Blake is standing on the table with his lightsaber!

Stop it! You're always hitting me with something!

Blake cannot keep his hands to himself, and lacks self-control.

Blake ... please get down from the table and leave your sister alone. Please go to your room and get your homework done.

Blake ... finish your work, wash up, and join us for dinner.

But Blake could not focus on his homework. He was easily distracted.

Ok, Mom.

Blake ... please sit down to eat dinner. Where do you think you're going?

I'm done. I'm going out to play, Mom.

He really could not sit through a meal.

The teacher told Blake's parents he is a nice boy, but quite disorganized and disruptive. He forgets his homework, daydreams, and fidgets with his pencils. She offered to work together.

Honey, I am concerned. Let's make an appointment with the doctor to see what options are available.

I agree. I will make an appointment this week.

Hey Blake, I thought we were playing soccer!

Blake struggles staying interested in one activity.

Yes sir.

Blake ... I'm Doctor Stevens. It will help you to take a medicine called Ritalin. This will allow you to focus and stay calm. Does that sound good?

I'm also going to meet with you once a week for occupational therapy. This therapy teaches you coping methods to use in and out of school.

Okay. Sounds great!

Jenny ... Blake has something called ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This means he needs help staying focused and using his energy in a positive manner.

Mom, I don't understand why Blake isn't more like me. He's so annoying.

Dr. Stevens recommends Blake's parents buy him a stress ball, a balance board, and weighted blanket for therapy. He also asks them to enroll Blake in a high energy sport.

He will improve. Your brother is using medicine and therapy to make him feel better.

Oh. Will he always be this way?

It will be for Blake too. He will be able to get his school work done, sit for a meal, and play nicely with you and his friends.

What a relief.
