The 1950's: what comes to mind when you think
of this era? A white picket fence, a wholesome
family and a booming economy? Yes, these were
all fundamental aspects to the decade, but not
everything was sunshine and roses (as many may
have believed.) There were underlying factors
which quickly rose to the surface and altered the
course of history forever. We will take a short
journey through a day in the life of two teenagers,
Linda and Michael, in the year 1956, as they
uncover a whole new world that exists beyond
their front door.

*Per usual, Linda, Michael, and their parents gather
around the television after dinner*
*On the T.V., a commercial appears, advertising the
new and exciting establishment of drive-in movie
theaters and popular diners*
Linda: *Sigh* "It would be such a blast going to the
diner or drive-in, don't you think, Michael?"
Micheal: "It sure would be, Linda!"
Father: Hey kids, it's Friday, go out and have some fun.
Here's ten dollars, be back home by 12."
Kids: "Gee, thanks mom and dad!"
Due to the booming economy, there was a significant
increase in spending money, allowing parents to give
their children more freedom and social independence.

*Linda and Michael got into the car and began to
drive up the street. They came across the local
diner.*
"Look Michael, there's the diner!" Linda announced.
"Let's go inside!" replied Michael.
Upon arrival into the diner, the two kids were
greeted with the sound of Elvis Presley's latest hit,
"Blue Suede Shoes" blaring from the jukebox. The
two were amazed at how many of their friends they
came across at the diner. Both of them sat down and
enjoyed a nice ice cream float, then continued on
their way.
The local diner was a typical hangout for teens in
the 1950's. They could come here to meet up with
friends, get their favorite food, or just to relax and
listen to the jukebox plays tunes all night.

*Linda and Michael didn't want to go home right after
leaving the diner.*
Linda: "What do you want to do now?"
Michael: "Hmmm...There are so many options!"
*Linda heard her name being called from behind, and
she turned around to see her friend Jenny running
towards them.*
Jenny: "Hey guys! Do you want to see a movie at Los
Altos Drive in?
Michael and Linda: "That sounds great!"
*Michael drove them all to the drive in where they had a
great time watching a romantic movie.*
Drive-in theaters became an instant sensation, not just
in America, but in countries across the globe.
