Good dwarf Eddie
Forest Assistant
by Zhansaya Rakymbek

One day Lily and Olivia went for a walk in the good forest. They walked, admired the flowers, ate fragrant strawberries, listened to the singing of birds, inhaled the aroma of fresh pine needles. Suddenly the guys came out into a clearing they had never been to before and saw that there was a pretty little house there.
— I wonder who lives in this house? Lily said.
—This is Eddie the gnome's house," a thin voice suddenly sounded. The guys looked around and saw that a squirrel was talking to them, which was sitting on a birch branch. "And who is he, Eddie the gnome?" We haven't met him yet," Olivia asked.
—Eddie is a forest helper,— the squirrel replied. "Is that his job?" Lily was surprised. — No, — the squirrel shook her head, — it's not a job, it's just that Eddie is a very kind dwarf. He always helps everyone: heals broken trees, makes sure that the chicks do not fall out of the nests, helps forest
animals to make supplies for the winter. Eddie will always find a kind word for everyone, will help in any trouble, so everyone always rushes to him for help.
— What a good fellow this dwarf is! Olivia exclaimed. Then the guys saw that Eddie the gnome himself came out of the house into the clearing, greeted the sun, the forest, and then noticed the guys and invited them to drink tea with raspberry jam sandwiches.
— Be sure to visit when you come to the forest! Eddie said when he said goodbye to the guys. That's how Olivia and Lily met Eddie. Since then, they often met him in the forest when he was helping someone from the forest inhabitants. Sometimes the guys came to visit Eddie, although he was not always at home, often went away on his good forest business. After all, someone always needs help in the forest.
On one of the first autumn days, Lily and Olivia went to the forest for mushrooms. The day before it was raining mushrooms, as grandma said, and the guys decided to collect mushrooms to dry for the winter. While collecting cheesecakes and chanterelles, the brother and sister themselves did not notice how the path led them to Eddie's house. Olivia knocked on the small door, and the boys heard Eddie's voice from the back of the house:
— Come in, it's not locked! It was a little strange, since the owner of the house always opened the door to the guests himself. When Olivia and Lily entered the house, they saw that Eddie was lying in bed. When they asked what happened, the dwarf replied:
— Yes, three days ago, after the rain, I went to check how things were going in the forest. I slipped, fell and broke my leg. It's good that the elves found me and helped me get home.
