Learning with Technology

Before I started learning with technology, I used to think it was only watching videos, completing tests or creating a presentation using a powerpoint. Now, I think technology is crucial to most learning settings because of the endless opportunities. The assignment for this module was to create a Padlet and give examples of my own experiences with meaningful learning. This was my first step to really playing with educational technology.

Productivity Tools

Productivity tools such as Google Docs and Google Slides were familiar to me before taking the deep dive into them in my IDT class. I had written essays and created presentations with these tools before and used to think that was all they were used for. Now I know how many different projects you can complete with each tool and more! The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating projects using Google's productivity tools and there is so much more to learn.

Digital Organization

I used to think digital organization was simply making a graphic organizer or chart online and filling it in with information. Little did I know, digital organization is so much more than that! This module was the first one I started my portfolio with. Learning how to organize information that I have learned and projects I have created was very engaging. Now, I think digital organization is a great way for students to keep track of their online activities and assignments. 

Digital Citizenship

I never learned about digital citizenship and all of the safety that children and students should know before surfing the web. I knew of dangers like scams and bad people, but there are so many things to learn about being safe online. Anything you post online is public for everyone to see and can be found at any time. This is also important to teach to older students who are searching for jobs because if the hiring manager checks your social media, it can affect your opportunity for getting the job.

Online Safety and Cyberbullying

Online safety and cyberbullying are major components to staying safe with technology that should be taught to all students. Cyberbullying over the years has led to many tragic incidents with young children. As a teacher, and a parent, it is important to monitor a child's activity online whether they are completing school assignments or exploring the World Wide Web. I used to think I understood the importance, but now I know how important online safety is.

Audio and Video

I used to think that audio and video were voice recordings and videos that you record with a camera. Now, I have learned how many audio and video projects can be completed with an abundance of technology tools. Screencasting was a new tool that I did not know how to use or navigate. This module was engaging and very informative about sharing and creating videos of yourself, videos creating with animations, and screen recordings of a computer screen.
