This book is dedicated to my mother. I am forever thankful for everything you provided for me as a child and even as an adult to this very day. You are such a hardworking and amazing women! You deserve to shine!
I love you mom!

Hi, This is Lucy!
She is a 5th grader.

These are her two best friends; Lola and Emma.

Mrs. Pillar, Lucy's teacher, delivered a class statement on Monday afternoon during class.
"Reminder everyone that there will be a school dance on Friday!"
Lucy was so excited to be going with her friends and classmates!

Lucy told her mother about the dance on Friday as soon as she returned home from school that day!
"Mommy, may we please go shopping for a nice dress this week?"
"Sure, let's go after school on Wednesday," Mommy said.

Lucy and her mother were both shopping fore dresses at the mall on Wednesday.
They went to almost every store in the mall, but the prices or every dress Lucy chose were far above her mother's budget.
Lucy was becoming upset.

Lucy's eyes caught a glimpse of a lovely pink dress for the dance through a store window!
"Mommy, Mommy, this is the most prettiest dress we've seen today!"
Lucy chose a stunning pink sparkly dress.
This dressed captured her attention!

Unfortunately, when Lucy's mother looked at the price tag on this dress, again she realized it was far too pricey.
Lucy's mother was a single mother who worked as a nurse, and the dresses today were all completely out of her price range. She had to inform Lucy one again about the scenario.

$$$$$$$

Unfortunately Lucy, Mommy doesn't have the money for this dress right now," her mother explained, "but let's keep exploring and see if can find another gorgeous dress."
Lucy was getting really frustrated at this time and just wanted to go home.

Lucy ended coming home that day empty-handed.
She saw so many dresses today that she wished she could have but couldn't
She immediately went to her room and cried for the rest of the night.

It was Thursday and her friends Lola and Emma were talking about their new dresses.

Lola explained, "My mommy bought me a glittery purple dress."
Emma explained, "My mommy bought me a bright blue dress."
Then both Lola and Emma asked about Lucy's dress.

Lucy was immediately jealous that they had both found lovely dresses when she had not.
She was angry that her mother was unable to purchase any dresses for her.

"I haven't found a dress yet since the dresses I liked are simply too pricey for my mommy to buy," Lucy explained.
Lucy's friends just looked at each other in shock and just didn't say anything to Lucy.
Lucy's skin start to flare bright pink because she felt so embarrassed!

Lucy's mother called her for dinner in the evening.
Lucy's mother saw Lucy was sad at the dinner table.

"Lucy, are you all right?" her mother questioned.
Lucy told her mother about how her classmates were able to find lovely dresses while she was unable to and that she was so embarrassed about not affording the dresses.
Lucy's mother was upset about the financial situation.
"I swear we will find a gorgeous dress before tomorrow night," Lucy mother promised.
Lucy remained silent for the rest of the night, hoping that her mother would find a way to get her a dress by tomorrow night.
The dance was tonight, and it was already Friday.
