The Ferramonti di Tarsia camp was the largest Italian concentration camp and was built by the fascist regime following the introduction of the racial laws.
Ferramonti was a marshy and malaria-ridden area located in the municipality of Tarsia and reclaimed in the second half of the 1930s by Eugenio Parrini, who influenced the choice of location to direct it towards his reclamation sites where he later also started construction of the camp.
The structure comprised 92 barracks of different sizes, many with the typical ‘U’ shape, equipped with kitchens, latrines and communal wash houses. The management of the camp was entrusted to the Commissioner of Public Security Paolo Salvatore, who was replaced in January 1943 by Leopoldo Pelosio and later by Mario Fraticelli, due to alleged accusations of excessive tolerance towards the internees. Despite the deprivation of liberty, the internees were treated with a certain degree of humanity by the camp staff.

In fact, a relationship of solidarity was also established with the local population during the war, characterised by an unusual civil harmony.
Along with Italian, Polish, Slavic, Austrian, Greek, Hungarian and German Jews, civilian prisoners, Yugoslav partisans, Greek political prisoners, French military personnel and even a group of Chinese who were entrusted with the camp's internal laundry were also held in the camp

Commissioned by Carol I (1839-1914), independent Romania’s first king, Peles Castle was constructed between 1873 and 1883 and built in a neo-Renaissance style with Fachwerk facades. Peles Castle was the first ever European palace to be powered by electricity, created in its own power plant, and to have central heating.Q
