Once upon a time deep inside the heart of San Francisco, lived Little Red Riding Hood and her mother. Her mother lived paycheck to paycheck with her job at McDonald’s and lived in poverty. Little Red Riding Hood did not have access to good education and her neighborhood was very dangerous, but one thing she did have was her grandmother who lived down five blocks.

One day, her grandmother fell ill and Little Red Riding Hood needed to deliver medicine to her. Little Red Riding Hood’s mother packed up the medicine that her grandmother needed and sent Little Red Riding Hood to walk down to her house and deliver it; she expected her to be back within a couple minutes.

Little Red Riding Hood, like every little girl, skipped and sang while walking down to her grandmother’s house. This drew the attention of the addict. The addict noticed the rattle of the medicine container as the little girl skipped down the street alone. The addict who had not been euphoric in a whole week was desperate to get a hold of the medicine. The addict started following Little Red Riding Hood but he couldn’t just snatch it out of her hand because that would draw too much attention, so he started to talk to Little Red Riding Hood nicely.

“Hey little girl, what do you have there in your bag?” Little Red Riding Hood looked back confused but admitted, “I am delivering this medicine to my grandmother who is very ill.” The addict responded, “Where does she live?” “Down five blocks” Little Red Riding Hood was taught to not talk to strangers, but this one seemed too nice so she continued to spill everything she was doing. The addict and Little Red Riding Hood continued to exchange words until he randomly disappeared.

Little Red Riding Hood continued to skip down to her grandmother’s house while the addict took a shortcut to beat her there. When the addict made it to the grandmother’s house, he pretended to be Little Red Riding Hood. “Who’s there?” said the grandmother in a very weak voice. “It’s your granddaughter” squealed the addict. “Come on in,” replied the grandmother, “Do you have my medicine?”
