Dedicated to Alex and kenny

David is a shepherd who lives in Israel. He spends all day with his sheep defending them against predators. Although this is a scary job at times, David is never afraid because he knows God always has his back and will always protect him.

When David got to the camp ground he saw an angry Philistine man named Goliath trying to pick a fight. Goliath wanted to fight the largest soldier in the Isreal military.
One day, David’s dad asked him to deliver lunch to his brothers. His two older brothers were soldiers in Israel’s military that was preparing to fight the Philistines.

David, although he looked really small, knew he could fight Goliath because he had God behind him. David went and gathered his slingshot and 5 small rocks. He went up against Goliath and with his first slingshot he was able to hit Goliath in the face and defeat him. Even though the odds were against him, David had faith that God would protect him.

David’s story shows us that God is always faithful to us. In our times of need God will stand behind us and protect us, just as he did for David. Even when times are tough or our problems seem too large to handle, God is always there for us.

Later in life David became the ruler of the Isrealites. Even though David made mistakes, God was always there for him. He gave David as many chances as possible to do the right thing and always was slow to anger. When God ended up punishing David for having another person killed, he still loved him and took him back with open arms. This is because in addition to being slow to anger, God is also always loyal in his love.

Solomon would eventually grow up to take his dad’s throne as the ruler of the Isrealites. Solomon wanted to be the best ruler he could be, so he asked God for help.
David and his wife Bathsheba had a son named Solomon

God told Solomon that he would grant him a wish. Solomon decided that he wished for wisdom to be a better leader for Israel. This made God very happy because his wish was selfless. Solomon could have asked for wealth, or power, but instead, he wished for something that would be a benefit to his people.

God was so happy that in addition to wisdom, he also provided Solomon with power and wealth. This shows that God is both gracious and compassionate. God knew he had tasked Solomon with a huge job by making him ruler, and he showed him his love by providing him what he needed. Like his dad, Solomon trusted in God with all of his heart and was given the support he needed to be a good ruler for the people of Israel.
