In school, you must have learnt that there are many countries in the world, but have you ever heard of Ghana?
Well if you haven't, you are in luck because this book will tell you all you need to know about the beautiful African country.
Ghana is a West African country that can be found between Cote d'Ivoire also known as Ivory Coast, Togo, Burkina Faso and when you look at the South border you will see the Gulf of Guinea.
Because of its considerable natural resources and partly because it was the first black African country south of the Sahara to attain independence from colonial control, Ghana is one of the leading African countries.
The History of Ghana
Before Ghana gained independence, they were called Gold Coast, this was because there was a lot of gold there when the Portuguese arrived on the land.
People flocked to the Gold Coast to look for gold from Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom. In the twentieth century, the British took control of the nation after a series of wars and declared the Gold Coast as a British Empire territory until they gained independence in 1957.
Ghana is also a country of nature, having six national parks and many smaller nature reserves to help protect the country's wildlife. Elephants, crocodiles, warthogs, hippos, leopards and wild buffalo are examples of the wildlife in the country. The 3rd largest artificial lake in the world, the Volta River is also found in this beautiful country
Contrary to some nations throughout the world, where there are four seasons: Autumn, Spring, Summer, and Winter. Because Ghana is a tropical country, it only has two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. Tropical regions receive more sunshine than the rest of the world, making every day feel like summer when it doesn't rain.
Ghana is not only rich in natural resources, but it is also rich in culture, with over 50 ethnic groups, each with its unique set of beliefs and practices. The Akans, who make up around 45 per cent of the population, are the largest ethnic group in the peaceful West African country.
