RING, RING went a small alarm clock in the seemingly sleeping Mary Anne Jone’s, small room. A loud thud- like sound was heard as Mary Anne opened her eyes and threw her blanket over her before she raced out the door, all in a blink of an eye. Mary Anne was so excited he didn’t realise her sister holding a breakfast tray. “why is she so excited?” murmured Mary Anne’s sister, as she carefully walked down the stairs. “ok some Weetbix will do for today” muttered Mrs Jone
“don’t you usually make something special on special days
and favourites on birthdays?” Asked Mary Anne for some reason confused.
“yes, I do everyone knows especially your older sister right Amelia, why’d you ask?” answered Mrs Jone exhausted
Mrs Jone (Amelia and Mary Anne’s Mom) had been on a 7-week nonstop driving and work business trip where she barely got any sleep and Mr Jone had died a Year earlier so she had no one to take care of the kids so she had to do that to on top off all of her work.
“uuuhm no reason, uhm, I kinda – well- it- it is- but like-, ugh , never mind it was nothing” stumbled Mary Anne before she went to her room to get ready for school. After 10 minutes, when she was ready for school, Mary Anne rushed out the
door saying ‘I’ll miss the bus! Sorry’. That didn’t make sense to Amelia as the bus went after 30 minutes and the stop was right in front of their house.
After around 30 minutes, sure enough Amelia heard the honk of the bus. She clambered aboard with her neighbours and chatted the time away. As soon as Amelia reached school she rushed to the spot where Mary Anne and her friends always hanged out but when she reached there was nobody but Mary Anne sleeping under the trees. As there was only 15 minutes to class Amelia woke her up but annoyingly, she just zoomed of to the classrooms. At recess Amelia went to talk with Mary Anne and found her CRYING! She ran to her and asked her what happened.
“huh, oh it’s you, you scared me!”, Mary Anne mumbled “uhm well ,Mrs. Rose is away, and so are my friends, for a substitute we got the most mean teacher ever Mr. Boris! He’s been picking on me - HIC- and so are -HIC- the mean girls, sniff, sniff.” She cried as she hugged her older sister.
“Oh, come on sis, this has happened a billion times before, and you fought through it! What happened to my strong little sister?” Amelia asked a bit worried” hmmm maybe if I TICKLE you, she’ll come out! are you in there? Hmm TICKLE, TICKLE, TICKLE, TICKLE, TICKLE, TICKLE, TICKLE,” giggled Amelia as she tickled her sister.
Mary Anne gave her sister a smile & wave and said, ‘I’m going to play in the park bye’ and rushed by. Amelia decided
to go home get her cycle and cycle to the park, finally when she reached the park, she saw Mary Anne sitting on the swings, yet again, CRYING! Amelia had a sudden brainwave, the strange behaviours of Mary Anne’s ran like a movie reel through her head introducing a nerve- racking theory that Amelia did not want to be true, but she had to check! She whipped out her cell phone and checked the date and sure enough her theory was confirmed; it was Mary Anne’s BIRTHDAY! All the piece of the puzzle fitted together – mom became very tired and forgetful after the trip and so she forgot Mary Anne’s birthday, Mary Anne was wondering where her favourite food was because it was her birthday, she was so sad that the only other people who knew about
her birthday were away and probably sick and on top of that she was being bullied on her birthday which is why she was crying! Amelia almost burst into tears because she was the only one who didn’t have a real excuse for forgetting Mary Anne’s birthday or not wishing her birthday! ‘DOOODODODOOOOOO PICK ME UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!’, Rang Amelia’s weird ringtone. It was a call from Mary Anne’s best friend; milly!
“Hello…” asked Milly
“Oh, hi Milly” replied Amelia quietly
“Yeah, ok cool, now you know its Mary Anne’s birthday, right?” questioned Milly
“Uhm yeah OF COURSE, she is my sister after all, hahaha” answered Amelia feeling like she was being scrutinised through the phone.
“Ok great! So me and the girls along with Mrs Rose have been setting up this surprise birthday party so its behind the candy shop we need you to get her here k” rapidly explained Milly.
“Ok, I know the PERFECT IDEA” exclaimed Amelia determined. It was true she had an intriguing and fun idea which would make Mary Anne happier before the party, but first things first she had to tell mom and ask for some help. Once she got home, she did just that and after it was created she called Mary Anne to come home as she slipped
the note onto Mary Anne’s bed.
Mary Anne came home and scurried up to her bedroom to find a written note attached to a 5 dollar note using a paper clip. It read:
To: Mary Anne
You looked really sad today so want to visit the candy shop (come to the back)?get some plastic spoons while you’re coming pls!! why are you so sad…
From: Amelia
Since Mary Anne was bored, she agreed to go, she took the 5 dollars and the note – still attached- and headed to the party store and got some spoons wishing that she was buying birthday hats for her own birthday party. Just before
she paid, she took of the paper clip and a bright glow illuminated the words BIRTHDAY GIRL! Her eyes widened in shock and happiness while her face glowed as much as light beaming from the note! She quickly paid and ran out of the shop to the back of the candy shop and suddenly she heard a loud scream of ‘HAPPY BRITRHDAY!!!!’ Mary Anne burst into tears of happiness and hugged everyone there – Mrs Rose, Milly, Charlotte, Brittany, Felicia, her mom, Amelia and some people from class!
They had a blast took selfies , partied, danced and cut the cake
As Mary Anne blowed the candles she that she will not lose
this family soon and that everyone in the world doesn’t give up!
