Somewhere off the coast of Hawaii, there was a coral reef where fish, sea turtles, sharks, dolphins, starfish, jellyfish, and many other sea creatures all loved to swim and play. All the little fishies would play hide and seek among the brightly colored coral, playful sea anemones, and lush seaweed forests. Laughter filled the clean, blue saltwater and the imagination of these little ones never ceased.

When they grew tired of hide and seek, the little guppies would fight off sea dragons made of seaweed, rescue their friends from coral jails guarded by ninjas, or try to steal the pearl out of the mouth of Old Man Clam as he slept with his mouth open. The coral reef was their home, and they loved it there. Their adventures never ceased and every night they would go to bed ready to see what the next day held in store. One day, when they woke up the next morning and were all ready to go outside and play, they saw some unfamiliar sights…

There were strange shiny objects peppered all around the reef, odd, brightly colored things floating or tangled up in the seaweed, one of the sea turtles got all wound up in a piece of netting, and worst of all, in the distance there was…. a large object dragging some kind of net behind it and breaking away chunks of coral from the reef as it would get caught. All of the creatures in the reef were afraid, and everyone was in a panic. People were swimming for their lives trying to get away.

Some younger fish were going to leave but noticed their sea turtle friend, a small turtle named Sally, was tangled in some weird object of some kind. They immediately decided to help her but, they needed to figure out a way to break her free from the weird clear rings that were wrapped around her neck and flippers.

Sally had never seen anything like this, although her parents would sometimes tell her and her friends stories about how a long time ago, humans were traveling through the area on a large boat, and some objects and nets showed up in a similar manner as to what had happened that morning. The large object pulling the net did a lot of damage to a reef not too far from where they lived and she wondered if maybe humans had done this too. Sally thought to herself, “Wow, this must be a boat. They sure do a lot of damage, and I was not expecting them to be as big as THAT is.”
