Dedicated to my dog, Rory. She's a real one.

Once in Northern Iceland, there was a quaint little village that was home to happy people who lived happy lives. From the outside looking in life was perfect there, nothing went wrong, and everything was perfect.

In this village lived a girl named Emilia. Emilia lived with her dad on a small piece of land on the edge of the community. While they don't have a ton of money or the nicest house in the village, they are completely content with the simple life they live.

However, deep in the forest behind the village, there lived a tribe of trolls. These trolls are rarely seen by the villagers, but the stories told about them are endless. They are described as hideous beasts with skin like a snake. The trolls live in tribes and have been terrorizing the villagers for years.

The stories of these trolls evolved into a whole festival that the town holds every year where it tasks in villagers to go out and capture the beasts that live amongst them. This year there was a prize to be won, 10,000 Króna.

After running an errand for her dad, Emilia runs home to tell him about the new rules of the troll-hunting contest. She has never been old enough, but this year she was determined to find one and win.

Dad can I please, enter the contest this year? The prize money would help us so much!
Absolutely not! You'll get lost! You'll get hurt!
You'll get eaten!
Nei! Nei! Nei!

Emilia defied her father's wishes that night while he was sleeping. She was going to show him that she was old enough. Under the cover of darkness, she ventured out into the night in search of the horrendous trolls.

Veru Sterku*, Emilia.
Veru Steku.
*Stay Strong

After many hours of walking, Emilia came across a clearing in the woods. There what she saw was terrifying. It was them, the spectacularly horrible beasts, the trolls. She decided that it was now or never and decided to aim for the smallest of the trolls.
