This story is about a boy who wanted to make friends at a new school. He went about it in the wrong way and learned that not everyone is a good person and will use you for what they can get from you if you are not careful. He learns that all it takes is being yourself and the people who are meant to be in your life will be there. Ricardo is a very kind well-mannered child and at the end of it all, he meets a true friend and likes him for who he is

This is Ricardo and he just moved to a new state with his mom and dad. He is so excited to start school and make new friends. Ricardo can't wait to play sports and join some of the clubs he was in back in his old school. Although Ricardo misses his best friend so much, he hopes he'll meet someone who will be just as special and important to his life.

Ricardo arrived for his first day at his new school. He saw a group of students chatting as they all waited for the bell to ring to enter the building. Ricardo greeted the group, but no one responded. Then Sara walked up to Ricardo after everyone walked away and said "If you want to be friends with them, you have to make it worth their while."

Ricardo's first class of the day was math. Asher and Celeste were also in his math class. They were part of the group he spoke to before school started. Ricardo overheard them talking about how they hate math because it can be confusing at times. So, Ricardo interrupted and offered to help them understand their assignment. Asher decided that it would be an even better idea if Ricardo just did his assignment for him. Sure enough Ricardo agreed because he wanted Asher to be his friend.

It is lunch time and Ricardo is walking to get to the cafeteria. As Ricardo was about to come around the corner, he froze in his tracks because he heard his name. "Can you believe that new kid, Ricardo was dumb enough to do my math assignment for me, what a lame". As Celeste is telling Asher that he is wrong for having him do his work in the first place and that he should not be calling him names because he is a really nice kid, Ricardo comes around the corner. He throws Asher's assignment at him and takes off.
