Christmas 2022
Love, Grammy

The temperature was dropping at a rapid rate. For Florida it was quite unusual, but the kids were prepared, wearing extra clothes and walking at a quicker pace.
“I love this part of our neighborhood.” declared Shiloh. “It reminds me of the woods behind Gram's house."
Her siblings concurred, all nodding as they hurried along.
“Hey, what was that loud thud?” shouted Dempsey.

Everyone looked in the direction he was pointing but nobody saw anything, so they all continued on.
There again I saw it!” shouted Dempsey. Doesn't anybody see what I'm looking at? Something big just fell from the sky!”
Kennedy and Cash and Shiloh just looked at him.
Again they all shook their head no.
Well Dempsey just took off running in the direction he had been pointing to see what he could see.

“Oh my goodness!” said Kennedy who had caught up with her brother. “What is this? It looks like an iguana! It's huge!”
“Is it dead?” questioned Shiloh. “Should we bury it?”
Before anyone could answer Shiloh, Dempsey yelled again. “Look, there's another one just like this one! See? I told you!”
They all looked to their left where Dempsey was now standing. And yes there was another one, a very large and quite still iguana.

"OK this is what I know,” began Cash in his textbook-solemn-quoting voice. "We studied iguanas and other reptiles that live in Florida. I remember that they like to sleep in trees but if it gets too cold, they get really stiff because they're probably shivering and they lose their grip from the tree and fall down. but they're probably not dead, just temporarily frozen and when the weather warms up they'll be OK. Probably if we come back tomorrow," Cash continued, "either they're just gonna be more frozen iguanas because it's gonna continue to get cold or there won't be any because it's gonna warm up and they'll all be fine. So, no, they're not dead and no, we shouldn't bury them. And finally, we should not touch them."

"Yikes, they are really ugly up close." offered Shiloh.
"Hey, I have an idea." Cash inserted. Let's name them! We could call one of them Pickles." Cash said.
Well that got a huge laugh out of all of them, including Cash. That was the name he wanted to name Gram's kitten and she vetoed it!

"Hey guys! Remember when we went to the zoo and saw those dinosaurs? Wasn't an iguana there too?" Dempsey asked.

Well, Dempsey's siblings burst out laughing!
"Wait, wait, guys. Actually, Dempsey is correct in that both are reptiles." explained Kennedy.
"Yes, but iguanas are alive, and dinosaurs are dead!" Shiloh argued.
"Extinct." Cash corrected.
"Ha! I was right." declared Dempsey.
"I'm just not sure iguanas were in that exhibit though. We'll just have to go again when we visit Gram!" Kennedy responded.
The kiddos began to walk faster, hoping no iguanas would drop on their heads. Dempsey and Cash pulled their hats out of their pockets, putting them on their heads so if an iguana fell, it wouldn't hurt so much.
And Shiloh, of course, found a tree to climb along the way.

"Hey guys, hey guys." Shiloh called. "You will never guess what I see up ahead. I can't believe it!"
They all shouted out guesses:
"Another iguana? A Lake? A bear? A rainbow? A fire?"
Shiloh just kept shaking her head, so her siblings begged her to tell.
"The Rock Park." she shared.
For a few seconds there was complete silence.
"Wait a minute," Kennedy questioned. "The Rock Park is in St. Louis near Gram's. Are you just teasing?"
"Just head that way and you'll see!" she pointed.
Well of course they all headed the way Shiloh had gestured as she climbed down from the tree and joined them. As they walked, they mumbled among themselves. Knowing the Rock Park was in St. Louis and knowing they, at the moment, were in Florida, it just didn't make any sense. How many times have they been in these woods and never come across a Rock Park? Were they all dreaming?
But there, just around the bend was the Rock Park!
