This book is dedicated to my Aunt Shabnam,
This story is inspired by the time when you were held at LAX airport by officials for over 8 hours when Donald Trump was President of the United States. For years and years, Middle-Eastern people specifically have faced plenty of issues in regards to entering and leaving the United States. Being Iranian in particular makes it even harder for my aunt to visit, despite having a green card. This book represents a similar situation that negatively impacts a Middle Eastern family in the United States. Thank you to all who read this.

Brian raises his hand in math class and properly answers a division question. The bell rings and he goes to lunch with a smile on his face.

He goes to lunch and spends time with his friends. While laughing about something on their phones, Brian notices some texts from his mom.

Soon after, Brian realizes something is wrong. His mom texts him saying that there are issues with his aunts arriving flight to the Los Angeles Airport from Tehran, Iran. His mother, texting only in Farsi, tells Brian that his aunt is currently being detained at the airport. She is unsure why.

Brian didn’t understand what the word detained meant, but he knew that since his mother was speaking only in Farsi, the situation was quite serious.

Brian then proceeded to walk towards his afternoon classes. He was extremely nervous and worried about his aunt. He had been excited this whole week to finally see her again!

Once getting out of his last class of the day, Brian got a call from his Mom. She told him that there are no updates and that she is still at the airport. She mentions the government as a reason for why his Aunt is stuck.
