In this story, the character, Ella, is having a hard time in math class. She does not quite understand things fully and has not been doing well in class. Lucky for her, Kathy, her mom is ready to step in and help Ella understand different math concepts! She uses mental math, her fingers, and resources around her to help solve problems!
Ella was struggling with her math homework. She was really struggling...

In luck, Ella's mom, Kathy, was in love with math.
She came across Ella at the table and said, "Come on, Ella! We are going to go exploring to help you learn math!"
Ella wondered how going to the store would help her with her math homework, but was excited to learn!

"We're going on an Adventure, we're going right away" the two screamed together!

Ella and her mom, Kathy, were ready to go into the store. When they got there, four cars were in the parking lot. For the time of day, that is very busy!

If you said yes, you are correct!

As Ella and Kathy were leaving the store, Ella noticed that there were less cars than there were when they got to the store.
Her mom asked, "How many cars left and how many cars are still here?"
Ella said, " When we got here, there were four cars. Now there are three. That would mean that one car left!"
Her mom said, "Great job, Ella! You are really getting a hang of this!"

"We're going on an Adventure, we're going right away" the two screamed together!

The two arrived at the park and the first thing that they saw was eight ducks! Ella was so excited and wanted to see more!

As the two kept walking, they saw four geese across the pond. Kathy knew that this would help Ella with her math and began to ask...
