This book is suitable for 3rd graders.

Hi, I am the Frontal Lobe, your guide, and I will guide you through your brain. We will use the neuron-mobile to enter the brain.
Here we go!

Our first stop will be the brain stem.
Our brain stem is very important because it controls things that we don't need to think about like breathing and the beating of our heart.

Imagine having to manually breathe every time!

Next, lets go to the Cerebellum
The cerebellum helps us with controlling our movements and with balance. If you didn't have a cerebellum, you would keep falling down!

Try jumping on one leg. You can only do this with your Cerebellum!

Thalamus
The thalamus receives information from your senses, not including smell, and sends it to the right place in the brain. It's like the mailman, it receives information and sends it to the right place.

The apple you see on the right is first processed in the thalamus, then the information is sent to a another place in the brain.

Amygdala
The amygdala deals with and processes emotions, such as when you are happy, angry, or, scared.

What makes you happy? What makes you angry? The Amygdala is responsible for those feelings. Why do you think emotions are important to humans and life?

Corpus Callosum
The Corpus Callosum connects the right and left sides of our brain together like a bridge. It is what allows both sides of the brain to communicate with each other!
Did you know that some people don't have a Corpus Callosum? Put an object on your left hand. You can probably easily name what it is, but people without a corpus callosum can see it but will not be able to name the object.

Uh oh, It looks like when we passed the Corpus Callosum, the car broke down! We will have to push it with us, but we will need it to work to get out of the brain. Hopefully, our next stop could be of some help.

Hippocampus
Our hippocampus helps us to learn and remember facts or information. You are using the hippocampus right now while reading this book!

What do you think would happen if someone didn't have a Hippocampus?

Although the Hippocampus can't fix the mobile, it does remember where to fix the engine! We must travel to the Hypothalamus.
