The Magic broad beans
FAIRY TALE 1
Title : 'The Magic broad beans' by Arsakeio Primary school students
Once upon a time, there was a poor old couple. They had nothing to eat but three broad beans. 'What shall we do now?’ thought the elderly man. ‘Maybe I could plant them.’
The next day he went to his field and planted the broad beans. To his amazement, the broad beans were magic!
Immediately, they started to grow and day by day they grew bigger and bigger, higher and higher up to the sky. A few days later, the old man went to his field, grabbed one beanstalk and shook it. Surprisingly, an elf came down and asked the old man,
‘What do you want, why did you call me?’
‘My wife and I are too old to work and we have no money at all.’
‘Don’t worry, go home and you’ll see my present for you. If you need anything else, come and shake the beanstalk again.’
The old man went back home where he found a pot full of gold coins. The elderly couple lived well from then on. They could buy anything they needed because the pot was magic and it never ran out of gold coins.

Unfortunately, some thieves came by and saw that the couple were quite well-off. They lurked and saw them take gold coins out of the pot. They hid nearby until it got dark. When the couple went to bed, the thieves stole the pot.

The following day the couple couldn’t find the pot. They didn’t know who stole it and they were very sad. Some days later, the old man shook the second beanstalk and elf climbed down.
‘What do you want? I gave the pot, didn’t I? Your wife and you must be having a good time!’ said the elf.
‘Yes, indeed, we used to! But someone stole it so we haven’t got any money. We’re starving!’ replied the old man.
‘Well,’ said the elf, ‘Go home and you’ll find a donkey. When you say, “Chuice, donkey!” it will make gold coins. You’ll never be hungry again!’

The poor man thanked the elf and left. When he got home, he found the donkey and said, ‘Chuice, donkey!’
Sssourrr! The gold coins!
The elderly couple were astonished! They bought groceries, they ate well and had a good time!
The thieves came by again to see how the elderly couple went by. When they saw they were well-off, they wondered,
‘We robbed them of the pot, where do they find gold coins?’

They lurked and saw the old man say, ‘Chuice, donkey!’ When they saw the donkey make a lot of coins, they decided to steal it. Off they went to the village where they bought a donkey and when the elderly couple fell asleep at night, they swapped the donkeys. After some days, the old man tried to make the donkey make coins but in vain. The donkey made dung instead. Then, he understood what had happened. He went to the field, shook the third beanstalk and the elf came down,
‘What’s up? You can’t need me, I gave you the magic donkey, didn’t I?’ said the elf.
‘Oh, my! Some thieves came by and stole the magic donkey! We’re starving!’ replied the old man.
‘Oh, well, go home and you’ll find a coffee table. When you say, “ Open, coffee table!” it will get full of delicacies. Once you have finished, you’ll say, “ Close, coffee table!”
The old man thanked the elf, went back home and found the magic coffee table.

Time went on without any troubles for the elderly couple. The thieves wanted to see how they went by so they lurked and saw the magic coffee table. They made a similar one. One day the elderly couple were away from home the thieves swapped the tables.

When the old man realised the coffee table didn’t open, he went to the field, shook all of the three beanstalks and the elf climbed down. He asked,
What’s the matter? I gave you the magic coffee table, didn’t I? Aren’t you happy?’
‘Oh my! Thieves stole the coffee table and now we’re starving!’ replied the old man.
‘Look, I’ll give you a walking stick this time! When the thieves come, you’ll say, “ Hit, stick!”
The elderly man walked home and put the walking stick by his bed.

The thieves came by again. They saw the walking stick by the man’s bed and wondered what magic thing it could do. One night while the elderly couple were sleeping they broke in. As they were approaching the stick the old man woke up and shouted, “ Hit, stick!”
The stick started to beat the thieves so hard that they began to cry and beg the old man to stop the stick beating them. The old man said,
‘Will you bring back everything you stole from us?’
‘Yes, we promise we will!’
‘Will you bring us the pot with the gold coins?’
‘Yes, of course we will!’
‘Will you bring us the magic donkey?’

Yes, we will!’
‘Will you bring us the magic coffee table?’
‘Yes, we will for sure! Please, tell the stick to stop beating us up or it’ll beat us to death!’
‘No!’ said the old man. You’ll bring us all the stolen things and then I’ll tell the stick to stop!’
The thieves hurried to fetch all the stolen things. When the old man saw them, he said,
‘Stop, stick!’

He said, ‘Chuice, donkey!’ Ssourr, the coins.
He went on, ‘Open, coffee table!’ and the table opened.Everything was all right. He turned to the thieves and said:
‘
'
It’s time you left now! If you dare come again, I’ll tell the stick to beat you up!’
The thieves never appeared again and the elderly couple lived happily ever after!

FAIRY TALE 2
The Wolf and Seven Baby Goats

The wolf listened in. When the mother goat left, the wolf went beside the window and said: “My little kids, open the doors, I brought back some hay and some water”. “No, no, we won’t let you!, said the little goats. Our mom talks softly, but you talk heavily. You aren’t our mom”.

The wolf ran away to the forge and asked the smithy to make the tongue sharper. After the visit to the smithy the wolf had the voice as soft as the mother goat.
He listened in on how the mother goat talks. The wolf went beside the window and started talking softly: “My little ,kids, open the doors! I brought back some hay and some milk”. The baby goats thought that their mom came back so they opened the doors. The wolf came in and started swallowing the little baby goats. He ate six of them and the last one ran away.
When the mother goat came back, the doors were open. She started looking for the baby goats but she only found one of them. She started cooking some fish. The wolf came back again and asked: ”What are you cooking? “The mother goat replied:” I’m cooking fish. Can I have some? - asked the wolf.

The mother goat says :”Go behind the fence, stick your tongue trough the fence, and I will bring you some fish ”. The wolf stuck out his tongue and waited. The goat took some coal from the fire and spilled it on the wolf’s tongue.
The wolf died after he had burned his throat. The goat cut the wolves stomach. All the baby goats came out safe and sound. From that time they would never let a wolf in their house.
