Miro the fox had been curled up on a tree stump. He hadn't gone to the safety of the den, but this was because he was watching out for the safety of his skulk. A fox trotted out of the den, followed by the rest of the skulk. They yipped excitedly to each other. Miro raised his head and hopped down from the tree stump. He raised his head and yipped to his pack. He started off towards the faint scent of a passing rabbit. He yipped to his skulk again, and one other fox went with him. One fox stayed behind, and three other foxes went to go hunt like Miro.
Miro squinted his eyes and scanned the area for any rabbits or squirrels. The trail of rabbit he had been following had vanished when they came to a river. Miro yapped to the other fox, and he began to find a safe route to cross the raging river. Soon enough, they found a safe bridge of rocks to cross. Once on the other side, Miro began running, the other fox tagging along behind him. Miro had spotted a rabbit! He stopped in the tall grass and crouched down. The rabbit didn't know he was there. Miro slowly inched forward and... SNAP! The rabbit was in his jaws.
Miro handed the dead rabbit to the other fox and started off back towards his den. The rest of the skulk was there. The other fox with Miro handed the rabbit back to him, and Miro handed it to another fox who placed it in a hole that had been dug. This was the cache, where they put food in to keep it safe and save for later. Miro yapped in question. What would they eat today if not the rabbit? In response, the fox grabbed a bigger rabbit in his jaws and placed it on the ground in front of Miro. Then they feasted!
Miro heard a distant bark of a fox. He raised his head and yapped to his skulk in warning. Had foxes come to take there food? Miro's ears twitched, and he took a step back. A few birds that had been in the trees took off as quickly as they could. Miro took another step back. Then he yipped again. Foxes were attacking! Miro and his skulk quickly ran to their den and covered the entrance with leaves. They also covered the cache with dirt. Miro hoped the foxes would leave if they couldn't find anything.
The foxes didn't leave. They discovered the den and growled in warning. Miro growled back, opening his mouth to show his sharp teeth. A few of the foxes stepped back. Miro leaped forward and bit into a fox's foot. The fox yowled in pain, and launched himself back at Miro. Miro tried to dodge the attack, but the fox's jaws caught his ear, and he tore away a chunk of it. Miro yowled and hissed at the foxes. He ignored the pain and yapped at his skulk to come out of the den and fight. Once his whole skulk came out, two of the enemy foxes retreated, scared for their lives. Miro growled and tore at one of the fox's paws. Eventually, after the battle, the enemy foxes retreated.
