Colonization,constitutes large-scale population movements wherein migrants maintain strong links with their, or their ancestors', former country – by such links, gain advantage over other inhabitants of the territory.

Settlement
A settlement is a resolution between disputing parties about a legal case, reached either before or after court action begins. A collective settlement is a settlement of multiple similar legal cases. The term also has other meanings in the context of law.
Reasons:
- drying and shrinking of the soils
-wetting and softening of soil
- poorly compacted fill soil.
common characteristics of revolution:
-Site refers to the exact location of where a settlement first started.
-Situation refers to the location of a settlement in relation to the surrounding area.
Unit 2: Revolution and the New Nation
Revolutions have occurred throughout human history and vary widely in terms of methods, duration, and motivating ideology. Their results include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions, usually in response to perceived overwhelming autocracy or plutocracy.

The New Nation (1790-1828) During this time, Americans established their government and two parties emerged--the Federalists and the Republicans. Americans had a lot to deal with during this period.

-The Townshend Acts (June-July 1767)
-The Boston Massacre (March 1770)
