To children who wonder why we pray.To children who want to know what it
means to give to God. To children
who wonder why sharing is so important.
“Sacrifice thank offerings to God,
fulfill your vows to the Most High,
and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Clarissa the Cow
by Lizzie, Savannah and Jessica

Once upon a time, there lived a
little cow named Clarissa. She
lived with her Mooma at the
end of the street in a pretty
pink house.

Clarissa was a very lucky little
cow. She had Mooma, who loved
her very much. She also had all
the toys that she could ever want
to play with in her beautiful
room. But Clarissa was not
happy. In fact, Clarissa was very
mean.

How do I know that she was
mean? Well, she did not know
how to share all her toys. Clarissa
would go out to play with her
friends, but if her friends tried to
play with a toy, Clarissa would
snatch it back and yell, "That's
mine!"

Clarissa was so afraid that her
friends would take her toys away
that she didn't want to play with
them anymore. She would come
home from school and go straight
to her room. She would play with
her toys all by herself, not going
out to see any of her friends.

She looked out the window and
saw all of her friends playing
with each other and sharing what
they had, and they were so happy!
But Clarissa was sad. She didn't
have any of her friends.

Mooma saw how sad Clarissa
was, and she knew what to do.
*knock, knock*
Mooma opened the door to
Clarissa's room. Clarissa looked
up at Mooma with tears in her
eyes and said, "Mooma, why
don't I have any friends?"

Mooma took Clarissa in her
arms and said, "Oh Clarissa,
don't you know that when I gave
you all those beautiful toys that I
gave them to you to share with
your friends?

I gave them to you because I
love you and want you to enjoy
them, but I told you to share
them because I know that giving
them to your friends will make
you happier than keeping them
for yourself and playing
alone ever could."

Clarissa had never thought of
this before! Could it be that
sharing her things would make
her happier than keeping them to
herself? She did not know, but
she was willing to try it!

The next day, Clarissa went to
Paisley the Pig's house to play.
Paisley had seven brothers and
seven sisters, and Paisley was the
fifteenth!

They all shared their toys and
were very happy, even though
they didn't have as many as
Clarissa did. Paisley the pig
loved to play with her jump rope,
but so did all of her brothers and
sisters!

The oldest of the pig family
would always play with it first,
and the youngest would have to
go last. So Paisley, being the
youngest out of all of them,
hardly ever got a turn!

Clarissa remembered what her
Mooma had said. Maybe she
could share her jump rope with
Paisley! Clarissa decided to try.
"Paisley, would you like to play
with my jump rope?

Paisley was very surprised.
Clarissa had never offered to
share before. Paisley had a big
smile, "Sure! I would love to
play with your jump rope.
We can take turns."

They had such fun playing
together that they played all day
long. Clarissa had a friend! Her
Mooma was right, sharing was
much more fun than playing on
your own.
