Vocabulary Words

Brinkmanship - The art or practice of pursuing a dangerous policy to the limits of safety before stopping, especially in politics.

Détente - The easing of hostility or strained relations, especially between countries. 

Deterrence - The action of discouraging an action or event through installing doubt or fear of the consequences. 

Alignment - A position of agreement or alliance

Containment - The action or policy of  preventing the expansion of a hostile country or influence. 

Expansionism - The policy of territorial or economic expansion. 

Some of the Vocabulary Words may not match with the Berlin Airlift subject.

Events

    The events that happened during the Berlin Airlift were:

-The Soviet Union creates a blockade over water and road to keep the U.S. and Great Britain from transporting any good to West Berlin from West Germany

-The U.S. and Great Britain uses left over war planes to carry goods over the blockade. 

Dates

    The dates of the start and finish of the Berlin Airlift were June 24, 1948 to May 12, 1949. That means that the blockade lasted for 46 weeks. 

Did you know that the Soviet could have shot down the planes but nobody wanted a third world war?

Increasing Tension

    Some people ask "Did the Berlin Airlift increase the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union?" The answer is: yes.  The reason for the tension increase is that this was one of the first moves either side made against the other.
