Taekwondo was first invented by the Koreans.

After its popularity in that country, people 

from everywhere started to learn it from 

them, including Taiwanese people.

That's why you can see taekwondo 

practicing places everywhere.

This particular thing is my favorite 

sport and I wish I could share the 

fun with you.

Someone might ask, "What does taekwondo 

mean?"

Tae means to hit with hand or fist; kwon 

means to kick with the leg; do means ways. 

We can put it all together and you will find 

out it means arms and legs performance.

Taking classes might not be as fun as 

staying at home playing video games, but it 

is a fun thing for me to do.

                    Warning:

The teachers are 

strict and they are 

not trying to

help you. 

Okay, some teachers are funny 

and they can really be your good 

friends.    

They are sometimes a little strict, 

but they are trying to help you.                                   

Practice at home. That will help you 

by having greater skills. 

I think that practice really helps me 

a lot. 

 I always practice when I 

get home from class 

because that’s when I 

can remember most of 

the things our teacher 

taught us. 

Remember to 

take a bath after 

that!

You need to review what 

you learned.

I think you really should 

practice at home.

 You win medals at 

contests. You will 

know all about it in the next 

chapter. 

When you get the 

contest permission, you 

may go to a contest. You 

will be able to win a 

medal if you can do 

everything well enough.
