Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter, his wife and their two children.

The boy's name was Hansel and the girl was called Gretel.

Une fois, un pauvre bûcheron, sa femme et leurs deux enfants ont habité dans 

la forêt.   Le nom du garçon a été Hansel et la fille a été appelé Gretel.

The woodcutter was so poor that the family had very little food to eat. So one 

night, the woodcutter's wife said, 'We cannot take care of the children anymore. 

You must take them to the middle of the forest and leave them there.'  

Le bûcheron a été si pauvre que la famille eu très peu à manger. Alors une 

nuit, la femme du bûcheron dit 'Nous ne pouvons plus prendre soin des 

enfants. Vous devez les apporter au milieu de la forêt et laisser.'

The two children heard their parents talk and they were very scared. 'We 

don't want to live in the forest!' they said to each other. So, the clever 

children came up with a plan to save themselves. That night, they quickly 

filled their pockets with tiny pebbles.

Les deux enfants ont entendu leurs parents parler et ils avaient très peur. 'Nous 

ne voulons pas vivre dans la forêt!' ils ont dit. Alors, les enfants intelligents fait 

un plan pour se sauver. Cette nuit-là, ils ont rempli rapidement les poches de 

petits cailloux.

The next morning, as the woodcutter took them to the middle of the forest, Hansel 

and Gretel dropped the pebbles all along the way. When their father left them, all 

they had to do was to follow the line of pebbles back home!

Le jour suivant, comme le bûcheron les a emmenés au milieu de la forêt, Hansel et 

Gretel chuté les cailloux tout le long du chemin. Lors leur père leur abandonded, 

tout ce qu'ils n'ont eu qu'à à suivre la ligne de cailloux à la maison!

The woodcutter and his wife were surprised to see the children back home,'We must 

take them again tomorrow,' they said. Hansel and Gretel were very worried now. 'All 

our pebbles are gone! What do we do now?' they cried. 

Le bûcheron et sa femme ont été surpris de voir les enfants à la maison, 'Nous 

devons les reprendre demain', ils ont dit. Hansel et Gretel ont été très inquiets 

maintenant. 'Tous nos galets sont partis! Que faisons-nous maintenant?' ils ont 

dit.

'I have an idea!' said Hansel. 'We can drop bread crumbs this time!' So, the next 

morning, when the woodcutter took the children deep inside the forest to leave them 

there again, the children dropped crumbs of bread all along the way. 

'J'ai idée!' dit Hansel. 'Nous pouvons laisser tomber des miettes de pain!' Alors, 

le jour suivant, quand le bûcheron a pris les enfants profond la forêt pour les 

laisser là encore, les enfants ont abandonné miettes de pain tout cours de route.

But sadly for the children, the animals and the birds had eaten up all the crumbs! 

Now, Hansel and Gretel walked and walked but couldn't find their way back home.

Mais malheureusement pour les enfants, les animaux et les oiseaux eu 

mangé tous les miettes! Maintenant, Hansel et Gretel marché et 

marché, mais n'a pas pu trouver le chemin du retour.

Suddenly, hidden in trees, they saw a strange house made of candy, cookies, 

chocolate and everything delicious. 'This is a gingerbread house!' said Gretel. 

Soudainement, caché dans les arbres, ils ont vu une étrange maison de 

bonbons, biscuits, chocolat et tout délicieux. 'C'est une maison de pain 

d'épice!' dit Gretel.

The children were 

so hungry that they 

started gobbling up 

the house at once. 

Les enfants ont été 

tellement faim qu'ils 

ont commencé à 

engloutir la maison à la 

fois.
