“Men, we are going to the moon. We will make America
the first country to see it first hand.” Said a NASA
scientist. “The moon?” asked three brave astronauts.
These astronauts had been into the space before, and no
one had ever been on the moon, so these men decided
that they wanted to be the first.

The mission would be called Apollo 11, and the
purpose of the mission was for the three brave
astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and
Edwin Aldrin Jr. to be the first people on the moon.
After months and months of
hard work and training, the
men were finally ready to
take their mission.

5…4…3…2…1, and they were off!

Seventy-six hours into their
mission, the astronauts finally
inserted into orbit, and soon
they would be landing on the
moon.

Finally, after more than 180
hours of travel the
astronauts had landed on
the moon. “Men, we did it.
We are the first people to
land on the moon. What
should we do first?” asked
one of the astronauts, and
the other two replied, “We
are hungry. Let’s eat!”

After finishing their dinner, the astronauts
began the preparations for stepping onto the
moon. Neil Armstrong was the one chosen to
actually exit the space craft, and he would
soon become the first human to step onto the
moon.

Upon stepping off the spaceship Neil Armstrong spoke
his now famous words, “That's one small step for a
man, one giant leap for mankind.” He then placed an
American flag on the moon to signal the huge
accomplishment of the American people.

While on the moon, the astronauts collected an
assortment of rocks and other space materials that
would be brought back to Earth and tested and
studied at the NASA headquarters.

The trip was unbelievably successful for the
astronauts and their accomplishment instilled
pride within our entire nation. The United States
became the first country to place a man on the
moon and ensured that our space program was
among the best in the world. Even today, Neil
Armstrong is considered an American hero.
