As she soared through the sky, Piper caught a glimpse of something reflecting the light of the sun. "Wendy, I found something to add to our collection! I'm gonna grab it!" She yelled to her friend as she dove down for the object.

When she neared the object, Piper could see that it was a small silver coin, polished to a bright finish! Score!

Piper snatched up the coin in her beak then took back to the air, proudly flying toward her and Wendy's nest atop a Eucalyptus tree.

When Piper arrived at the nest, she noticed Wendy hopping around excitedly. "Piper guess what! While you went to grab the shimmery thing you found," Wendy pulled a beautiful diamond ring out from behind her tail feathers then beamed, "I found this!" Piper inspected the ring in amazement, "Woooow" was all she could mutter, "I know right! It's so shiny!" Wendy responded. 

The two worked together to hide their findings under a few twigs in a corner of their nest, they they were off in search of food and perhaps a few more trinkets to add to their collection before day's end.

After the two magpies reached their nest again, they went to add another trinket to their collection when the two realized that the coin Piper had found earlier was missing! 

They decided it must have simply fallen out of the nest and retired to bed for the night rather than searching for it.  

The next day, Piper and Wendy woke up early to find breakfast and upon return to their nest, they found that again, a couple of their shiny trinkets were missing! This time, they even searched below the tree, but to no avail.

"What could be happening to our collection of trinkets!" cried Wendy, "Have you been hiding them somewhere so you can keep them for yourself Piper?" Shocked by such an accusations, Piper retorted, "Of course not! I would never do such a thing and you know it!" Offended, Piper flew out of the nest and away from their tree.

Over the next few days, there was a distance between the two, and an atmosphere of distrust and betrayal building up. They refused to even fly together, much less share their findings, yet things continued to disappear from under their noses!
