Cognitive Milestone 1

Develops an understanding of object permanence and looks for an item when it is hidden in front of the child. 

When I show Quint a puppet and then pack it away in a box, Quint knows the puppet still exists even if it is out of sight.

Cognitive Milestone 2

Places an item inside of another object. 

Quint likes to place the smaller nesting cups inside of the larger nesting cups. 

Cognitive Milestone 3

Bangs items together.

Quint like to take the handheld  plastic magnifying glasses and smash them together to make a sound. Quint reacts with a smile when he produces loud sounds with the hitting of handheld objects. 

Cognitive Milestone 4

Follows simple directions. 

Quint can follow simple directions or requests. If I ask Quint to put his cup on the table or to point to the dog in a book, he will do it. 

Language Development Milestone 1

Quint waves "hi" and "bye" to the people coming and going from the classroom. Quint just recently was able to turn his hand facing out when waving goodbye, as opposed to having his palm face him. 

Language Development Milestone 2

Quint babbles and asks for "Mama" when he gets scared, sad, or hurt. 

Quint can also say "Dada" and reserves saying it for his father. 

Language Development Milestone 3

 Quint understands what no means and has a distaste for being told "no" in the classroom.

If Quint is told no, he will typically stop what he is doing, look around the room, and begin crying and crawling to a familiar teacher for comfort. 

Language Development Milestone 4

Quint knows his name and will respond to hearing his name being said by turning and looking at the person speaking. 

If you sit and speak with Quint he will reply with sounds and babbling, as well as facial expressions.
