(Exposition)In a small and far away village called Porta lived a 10-year-old boy named Kurt. In Porta, there were many different types of people, with different beliefs, but Kurt did not believe in any one specific religion. Kurt was daring, kind, and always up for an adventure. He loved to walk in the forest surrounding Porta, looking at all the different bugs and animals around him. One day on one of his adventures, he ate a bright green bug for fun. By the time he got home, he was feeling very sick and coughing very loudly.

(Rising Action)As soon as he got home, his loving mom Wendy took him to the local doctor's office, but the doctor did not know how to help him and just left him on the bed that supported his lungs with machines. Hoping time would heal his lungs, Kurt sat in bed for months, but he never got better. Finally, Wendy decided that he needed something else, so she reached out to the local religious leaders for help.

The first person Wendy seeked out was Father Frances. To find him, she visited the local Catholic church where he spoke and spread his message. When she got to the church, it was midway through a mass, which is a central act of worship that many Catholics attend where they are able to become closer to God ("What is Catholic Mass?").
After the mass, Wendy walked up to Father Frances and said, "My son has been sick for months and the doctors have no clue how to heal him, do you have any way of helping him?"
"Yes, I will pay your son a visit in the form of an Anointing of the Sick, which is a common practice that we priests use to help heal the children of God ("Anointing of the Sick")." Father Francis replied.

The following day, Father Frances walked to the doctor's office. After introducing himself to Kurt he said, "Before I speak my prayers, I must introduce the ideas of which I preach. We believe in one God, who created Heaven and Earth. Through God, his son Jesus Christ, and the messages he preached we find meaning and faith ("What do Catholics Believe?")."
He then said multiple prayers with Kurt and told him to pray multiple times a day to God, asking for healing but also to strengthen his relationship with God ("Prayer").
Just as he was leaving he said, "Through this entire process, do not forget to keep your trust in God and his power."

This visit helped Kurt gain confidence and hope, but he still did not get better. Wendy restlessly then decided to visit the local Buddhist monk for help. She walked to the Buddhist monastery located at the edge of the town. There she met the Monk Thom. When she arrived, Thom was meditating, which is when a person sits in deep focus in their spirit, away from real life and the things that cause stress ("Meditation").

Once he finished his meditation, Wendy approached him and explained Kurts situation. Thom then replied by saying, "Before I tell you what to tell him, you must relay this core principle of Buddhism. We believe that suffering exists, suffering has a cause, suffering can be fixed, and that there is a path to the end of suffering ("The Four Noble Truths"). One day he will reach a perfect state, but until then this cycle will continue to happen."

After explaining his cause, Thom began to talk about what Kurt can do to feel better. "As you saw me doing, I advise to Kurt to meditate, to promote well-being in his mind. While he is meditating he should think about his past actions and his karma. Karma is the action of every part of our life, and it changes if we do something bad or good ("What is Karma?"). Bad Karma leads to bad events happening, which is a possible cause of Kurt's sickness."
