Dear Class, There is no greater gift than the gift of being in your presence-
the opportunity to be a sculptor who has the privilege to share
your futures. To be an artist who has a part in painting your future.
To be a musician who can offer inspiration and encourage you to
continue to grow. To be a historian who can record your
accomplishments. To be a poet that can capture the essence of your
beauty and love in words that will inspire future students to dream
and meet success. I will always hold a special place in my heart for
you. There is no greater gift than the gift of your presence.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holley

Our generation will be known for nothing.
Never will anybody say,
We were the peak of mankind.
That is wrong, the truth is
Our generation was a failure.
Thinking that
We actually succeeded
Is a waste. And we know
Living only for money and power
Is the way to go.
Being loving, respectful, and kind
Is a dumb thing to do.
Forgetting about that time,
Will not be easy, but we will try.
Changing our world for the better
Is something we never did.
Giving up
Was how we handled our problems.
Working hard
Was a joke.
We knew that
People thought we couldn’t come back
That might be true,
Unless we turn things around

I am dedicating this poem to Zack
Taylor. I am doing this because this
poem really reminds me of Zack and the
change that he tries to make in the
world.

Confidence
Grey and grey
For miles and miles
Girls in grey
With grey girl smiles
No girl sees
Other girls in grey
But they must, they must,
See themselves that way
Have visions of colour!
But colour we’re denied
For we must see grey
When we look inside
For a girl that sees colour
In the beat of her heart
Is surely a girl
We must tear apart

I dedicated this poem to all of the girls who have ever
suffered through the emotional and physical pain of
bullying. Everyone has experienced such cruelty whether
it be from peers, teachers, relatives, or parents. Every girl
has something that they are insecure about, and I believe
that all girls should be able to look in the mirror and see
something beautiful about themselves. I struggle with this
problem every day, and although the harassment has stopped,
the repercussions of bullying continue to impede me from living a
normal life and most importantly loving myself. This poem is very
dear to me because it embodies the emotional suffering I have
experienced and am still experiencing today.

In a village, long ago,
Heres a tale mi abuela had told,
Maria was the name of a beautiful girl,
Everywhere she went, the men do tricks and
twirls,
Yet selfishness filled her heart,
No man was good enough to play the
husband part, But along came a dashing
Ranchero,Who stole Marias heart like cupid
and his arrows,
Hard to get was the motto she was bound,
The Ranchero had fallen hard and fast, man
down,Time went by, they married and two
children they had bare, But the Ranchero
missed his old life and needed fresh air,
Gone months at a time, when he came back,
paid no attention to his wife,
Deciding her children were the cause of this,
she hated them, then loved them all in
perfect bliss, Time went by, and the children
and maria, walking down the street,
Had seen the Ranchero and a mistress in
Marias seat, Paying none to Maria but all to
the kids, Maria was so broken and fed up
with it, So broken and hurt she threw her
kids into a river, Realizing what was done,
she went looking as a broken hearted
sinner, Not succeeding, in her misery had
she died,
She was buried the next day where she
lied, That night, it is said that its told,
To be seen in all white was Marias ghost,
Every night looking for the kids she once
held, So cold and so frail, This story is
sweared to as true, Kids that go out at night
do not come back to you,
For la llorona will take them away,
Leaving nothing not a single trace,

I dedicate this original poem to Marisol Meraz. I dedicate
this poem to her because, like me, when we were younger,
we were told stories like such to scare us into not
participating in certain activities that could get us into trouble. I
hate to admit that they really work and i still believe in some of
the stories i was told when i was younger to keep me out of trouble
like this one. Some of the stories like the tale of “La Llorona” can teach a
message or has some type of warning in them. “La Llorona tells us to love
our parents and not go outside at night by your lonesome. Till this day, i'm
scared to be outside at night, even with my friends.

Inner Beauty
A hike can be a wonderful thing
mostly during the season of spring.
The trails with creeks alongside,
and the beauty of nature is nothing to hide.
Stop at the lake to capture the moment in awe,
and ask yourself if you can find a single flaw.
There’s flaws all around,
and because of that, nature’s beauty is something profound.
It’s imperfections make it unique.
So, beauty within is what the explorers seek.
The same is true with humankind.
Inner beauty is what we should find.
The outside shouldn’t even really matter.
For, the inner beauty is what makes your heart go pitter, patter.

I dedicate my poem titled, “Inner Beauty” to Madison
Miller; I chose her because she really represents what
my poem means and displays. She has such a nice and
great personality, and she shows what true inner beauty is,
and that is the whole message that I was trying to put out
there while writing my poem. Madison is also a very close friend
of mine, and she has always been there for me and given me good
advice. This again reflects on her positive personality; she is
positive as much as possible, and it just puts others in a good mood as
well. Therefore, I dedicate this poem to my good friend, Madison Miller.

The Battle

I would dedicate my favorite sample
poem to, Zachary Taylor. When I was
writing my poem I was thinking about my
dad and how brave and wonderful he is
and also how hard life can be to reach
your goal in life. My dad is a hard
working, supportive, and respectful man.
These characteristics remind me so much
of Zach. He is a young hard working
person how inspires others. Zach works
so hard to become better and reach his
goals in life. He is also a very encouraging
and respectful person.

You declare you see me dimly
through a glass which will not shine,
though I stand before you boldly,
trim in rank and marking time.
You do own to hear me faintly
as a whisper out of range,
while my drums beat out the message
and the rhythms never change.
Equality, and I will be free.
Equality, and I will be free.
You announce my ways are wanton,
that I fly from man to man,
but if I’m just a shadow to you,
could you ever understand ?
We have lived a painful history,
we know the shameful past,
but I keep on marching forward,
and you keep on coming last.
Equality, and I will be free.
Equality, and I will be free.
Take the blinders from your
vision, take the padding from
your ears, and confess you’ve
heard me crying, and admit
you’ve seen my tears.
Hear the tempo so compelling,
hear the blood throb in my veins.
Yes, my drums are beating
nightly, and the rhythms never
change.
Madison Miller
"Equality"

The poem “Equality” by Maya Angelou is dedicated to
Zachary Taylor. While he may not equally balance fun with
work, he treats every person equally. He is kind and supportive
of everyone, as I have witnessed for four years, and he says his
reasoning is because it is the right thing to do. Unlike the people in
this poem he does not let race, reputation, or anything else get in the
way of him being fair and kind to someone.

For my poetry project I created an original
piece that contains three haikus. Each haiku
describes a famous work of art, and is titled
with the name of the artist. The Cafe Terrace,
the Mona Lisa, and the Statue of David. I am
dedicating my work to Bryce Griffin. She has
always been interested in art, and is a fantastic
artist. She was the first thought that came to
me when Mrs.Holley gave us this assignment.
