This is Ducky. Ducky loves to swim and hang out with his friends, Moose and Hippo, by the pond. 

Moose can’t swim, but Ducky and Hippo always swim together, and Moose lays by the pond and watches them. 

Hippo was the one who taught Ducky how to swim. He learned to swim in only one day. Ever since that day, Ducky has spent a lot of time in the pond.

He eats his breakfast in the pond, he hangs out with his friends in the pond, he flips into the pond, and he even sleeps in a little house by the pond. Ducky loves this pond, there is nowhere else he would rather be.

One day, Ducky and Hippo were taking turns jumping into the pond. Moose was there too, enjoying a picnic. Ducky and Hippo decided to make jumping into the pond a contest, Moose would be the judge.

It was Hippo's turn first, so he backed up all the way to the fence, and he ran, he ran so fast, he almost seemed to disappear. 

Then Hippo jumped, 

he twisted, 

and he flipped.

“Eight!” Moose exclaimed.

Ducky wanted to win, so he knew he had to get a nine, maybe even a ten. He knew he had to step up his game in order to beat Hippo. 

Ducky decided at that moment, that he was going to do the best dive that anyone has ever seen. 

He was going to jump off of Moose's back, and flip into the pond.

So he backed up to the fence, and he ran, he jumped, and he flipped. It was magnificent.  “Ten!” Moose shouted, which meant that Ducky won.

Hippo was happy for Ducky, but Ducky was crying.

When Moose and Hippo noticed this, they both jumped in the pond to help him. 

“My wing, my wing!” Ducky whined.

Hippo noticed almost immediately that Ducky’s wing was injured, it had been broken from the jump. 

Hippo and Moose helped Ducky and lifted him out of the pond, and onto the shore. 

Ducky continued to cry, he realized that he would no longer be able to swim every day in the pond, or do flips into the pond, or eat breakfast in the pond. 

Moose and Hippo assured him that if he decided to get his wing fixed, he could swim again.

Ducky decided to do just that.

He went to the doctor, and he got his wing fixed. 

But after the procedure, the doctor told him he most likely would not be able to swim again for a few months.

Ducky was shocked. 

He was in denial, convinced that he could swim if he tried to right now. 

"I can do this!"

Moose and Hippo took Ducky home from the doctor’s office, and they made sure that he was safe, and that he couldn’t get anywhere if he tried. 

Well it didn’t work. The moment they shut the door, Ducky left and went to

 the pond.

He jumped into the pond and tried to swim, but he could barely move his wing.

He realized in that moment that he couldn’t swim back to shore.

But he was lucky enough to see that Moose was walking by the pond. 

Ducky started yelling for help, “Help Meeee! Help Meeee!” 

Moose heard this and started running towards the yelling, knowing that it was Ducky. 

 Moose jumped into the pond to save Ducky again! 

 When they got back on land, Moose made Ducky promise that he would not go in the pond until he was healed.
